We are seeking an Associate Attorney to join a growing practice in the Cedar Rapids area focused on bankruptcy, debt restructuring, and related business matters. In this role, you will work closely with clients navigating complex legal, financial, and business challenges while gaining meaningful courtroom experience and direct client exposure. You'll collaborate with experienced attorneys who are invested in mentorship and detail oriented development, providing a strong foundation for long-term career growth.
Responsibilities: • Assess legal matters and recommend practical strategies aligned with each client’s goals and circumstances. • Prepare a range of legal documents, including pleadings, motions, petitions, contracts, and related filings, with accuracy and attention to detail. • Research statutes, case law, and regulatory issues to support case strategy and address nuanced legal and financial questions. • Counsel individuals and business clients on legal options, risk considerations, and business-related decisions. • Advocate for clients during negotiations, mediations, hearings, depositions, and courtroom proceedings. • Lead client meetings to gather facts, explain potential paths forward, and help clients make informed decisions. • Partner with attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff to deliver responsive, high-quality legal service. • Oversee caseload progress by tracking deadlines, coordinating communications, and ensuring matters move forward efficiently. • Develop and maintain strong connections within the legal and business communities to support client service and practice growth.• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• Active Iowa law license or the ability to secure admission in Iowa.
• At least 3 years of legal experience, with background in civil litigation, bankruptcy, restructuring, commercial matters, lending and finance, business law, real estate, or related areas preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to draft motions and other legal filings and to participate effectively in depositions and court-related proceedings.
• Strong legal research, analytical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities, particularly in matters involving financial or business issues.
• Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills for working with clients, advisors, and internal teams.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced practice.
• Commitment to accountability, high-quality work product, and strong client service.
