Job Title: Food Production Machine Operator

Job Description

The Food Production Machine Operator plays a key role in operating and monitoring bakery production and packaging equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Working closely with bakery associates and reporting to production leadership, this role focuses on maintaining line efficiency, meeting product specifications, and upholding strict safety and quality standards. You will be trained on select machines and will ensure that baked goods such as donuts, pastries, and muffins are produced, packaged, and labeled accurately and consistently.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and adjust bakery production and packaging equipment to maintain consistent output and product quality.
  • Follow all safety, GMP, food safety, and quality policies and procedures during every stage of production.
  • Ensure all product specifications are met, including weights, settings, speeds, labels, ingredients, and packaging accuracy.
  • Perform routine quality checks on finished products and document results as required, including production logs and batch documentation.
  • Troubleshoot minor machine issues, perform basic adjustments, and promptly escalate major concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist with machine setup, changeovers, calibration, and basic preventative maintenance procedures as directed.
  • Support material handling activities, including moving ingredients, packaging materials, and supplies to and from the production line.
  • Assist with filling, batching, and ingredient preparation to support continuous production flow.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary work areas during and after production runs, following GMP and sanitation protocols.
  • Work with conveyor systems, mixers, ovens, fillers, and packaging equipment to support efficient bakery operations.
  • Complete and maintain accurate production logs, batch documentation, and other required records.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to resolve production challenges and improve line performance.
  • Participate in cross-training to learn multiple machines and processes and provide support to different areas of the production line as needed.
  • Perform routine safety checks on equipment and work areas and actively promote a safe work environment.
  • Follow FIFO (First In, First Out) practices and other inventory and material handling procedures as required.

Essential Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 6 months to 1 year of experience in production or manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Experience operating machinery in a production setting, ideally within food or beverage manufacturing.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to perform minor troubleshooting on production equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow SOPs, production orders, and product specifications accurately.
  • Familiarity with GMP, food safety, HACCP, or sanitation practices preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with a consistent focus on product quality and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to stand for 812 hours per shift and perform repetitive movements such as bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds on a consistent basis.
  • Comfort working in varying temperature conditions, including hot and cooler areas.
  • Reliability and strong work ethic in a fast-paced production environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in food manufacturing, bakery, or beverage production environments.
  • Experience working in production environments involving chemicals, batching, or blending processes.
  • Familiarity with food safety standards such as GMP, HACCP, and sanitation protocols.
  • Experience operating or assisting with mixers, ovens, fillers, conveyor systems, and packaging machines.
  • Exposure to high-volume, fast-paced production settings with strict quality and documentation standards.
  • Experience with material handling, batching, and ingredient preparation to support continuous production.
  • Basic understanding of preventative maintenance procedures, machine setup, changeovers, and calibration.
  • Ability to work in regulated environments that require PPE and strict compliance with safety and sanitation standards.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with operators, line workers, and supervisors.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and commitment to meeting production goals.
  • Willingness to cross-train and learn multiple production processes and machine operations.
  • Comfort using SOPs and production logs to record and track batch and quality information.

Work Environment

This role is based in a fast-paced food manufacturing facility producing baked goods such as donuts, pastries, and muffins. You will work on production lines with continuous machine operation, collaborating closely with team members to meet daily output goals. The environment can be hot and loud due to ovens and machinery, with strong bakery-related odors on the production floor, and may include cooler or refrigerated areas depending on the process. Employees must follow strict GMP and food safety standards and wear appropriate PPE, including hairnets, gloves, non-slip footwear, and a red hard hat, at all times. Cleanliness, sanitation, and maintaining an organized workspace throughout each shift are critical to success in this role.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sacramento, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
