Diesel Mechanic Responsibilities
- Diagnose engine, electrical, and aftertreatment problems using OEM and electronic diagnostic software.
- Repair and overhaul diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, and fuel systems.
- Service air brakes, suspension, steering, and HVAC on Class 6–8 trucks.
- Troubleshoot DPF, DEF, and SCR emissions systems.
- Do PM services and DOT inspections.
Auto Mechanic Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair cars and light trucks using scan tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Repair brakes, suspension, steering, and alignment.
- Repair engines, cooling systems, and electrical systems.
- Do oil changes, tune-ups, and scheduled maintenance.
- Service A/C and HVAC systems.
All Mechanics
- Road test and inspect vehicles to confirm repairs.
- Document repairs, parts, and labor time accurately on work orders.
- Work with service advisors and other techs to keep turnaround times short.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of auto, diesel, or heavy-truck repair experience.
- ASE certification preferred (A-series for auto, T-series for diesel).
- Experience with diagnostic tools. For diesel, that means tools like Cummins INSITE, DDDL, or ServiceMaxx.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record. A CDL is a plus for diesel roles.
- Must have your own hand tools.
