Job Title: Material HandlerJob Description

The Material Handler plays a crucial role in the manufacturing process by accurately counting, managing, and distributing materials throughout the facility. This position supports the inventory management system and helps maintain the efficiency and effectiveness of production lines by ensuring materials are available, properly stored, and correctly documented.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct inbound inspections of materials, including unpackaging, purchase order matching, counting, labeling, and accurate put-away into designated storage locations.
  • Perform daily Kanban replenishment and initiate material reorders to maintain appropriate inventory levels and prevent production delays.
  • Pick, stage, and deliver materials and components to production areas according to work orders and schedules, expediting deliveries as needed to support manufacturing demands.
  • Conduct regular cycle counts to verify inventory accuracy and promptly investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas in alignment with 5S principles, including proper storage, labeling, and housekeeping of materials and equipment.
  • Handle discrepant materials, including return to vendor (RTV), return to stock (RTS), rework, and scrap, following established procedures and documentation requirements.
  • Inspect, maintain, and perform basic repairs on material handling equipment such as scales, carts, pallet jacks, and forklifts to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Assist other departments by coordinating material availability and supporting cross-functional activities to keep production and shipping operations running smoothly.
  • Provide backup support for shipping and receiving activities, including loading and unloading trucks, packaging, and processing shipments and receipts using established procedures.
  • Use RF scanners and inventory systems to record material movements, transactions, and status updates accurately and in a timely manner.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience in material handling within a manufacturing, warehouse, or distribution environment.
  • Strong inventory management skills, including counting, labeling, put-away, and cycle counting.
  • Proficiency using RF scanners or similar handheld devices for tracking and recording inventory transactions.
  • Hands-on experience with shipping and receiving processes, including packaging, loading, unloading, and documentation.
  • Ability to perform order picking, staging, and delivery of materials to production lines accurately and efficiently.
  • Familiarity with Kanban or similar replenishment systems to support continuous material flow.
  • Capability to handle discrepant materials such as RTV, RTS, rework, and scrap according to defined procedures.
  • Experience operating and maintaining material handling equipment such as pallet jacks, carts, scales, and forklifts.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all material transactions and documentation.
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area following 5S or similar workplace organization standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment with structured inventory control processes.
  • Familiarity with basic equipment inspection and minor repair for material handling tools and devices.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with production, shipping, and other departments to meet material needs.
  • Comfort using basic computer or warehouse management systems to support inventory tracking and reporting.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work in a fast-paced setting.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing and warehouse setting, working closely with production lines and storage areas. Work areas follow 5S principles, with a strong emphasis on cleanliness, organization, and safety. Hours and shifts align with production and shipping needs, and you will collaborate frequently with production, inventory, and shipping/receiving teams in a structured, process-driven environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Salem, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
