The Process/Tooling Engineer supports new program launches and ongoing production by developing, troubleshooting, and optimizing manufacturing processes and tooling, partnering with Production, Quality, and Maintenance to improve process capability, reduce scrap, and support tooling maintenance and repair programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, document, and optimize manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, stamping, assembly) for new and existing programs
Support tooling design reviews, tryouts, and launch activities for new dies/molds and process equipment
Troubleshoot process and tooling issues on the production floor to reduce downtime, scrap, and quality escapes
Partner with Maintenance/Tool Room on preventive maintenance schedules and tooling repair prioritization
Develop and maintain process control documents (process sheets, work instructions, control plans, PFMEA)
Conduct capability studies (Cpk/Ppk) and support APQP/PPAP activities for new program launches
Lead or support continuous improvement projects (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen) to improve safety, quality, and productivity
Coordinate with Purchasing and suppliers on tooling procurement, engineering changes, and vendor tooling issues
Provide technical training and support to production and maintenance teams on new processes/tooling
Support cost estimates and timelines for tooling repairs, engineering changes, and process improvements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering preferred, or equivalent hands-on process/tooling experience
3+ years of process and/or tooling engineering experience in automotive manufacturing (injection molding, stamping, or assembly)
Working knowledge of PFMEA, control plans, APQP/PPAP, and IATF 16949 quality systems
Experience with CAD/tooling drawings, GD&T, and root-cause problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5-Why)
Strong analytical and hands-on troubleshooting skills; comfortable working on the production floor
Proficiency with MS Office; ERP/MES system experience a plus
