Summary:

NICOR is seeking a driven and detail-oriented professional to join our team as a Project Manager. We are looking for individuals who take initiative, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and are motivated to contribute to a high-performing, collaborative team.

The Project Manager plays a critical role in supporting NICOR's National Accounts by managing lighting and electrical product projects from order through final delivery and closeout. This role serves as the central point of contact between our customers, keeping schedules, scope, and billing aligned at every stage. It requires strong organizational and financial skills, a working knowledge of electrical products and project documentation, and the ability to communicate proactively with both internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate is action-oriented, highly organized, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of accuracy. Success in this role depends on consistent and clear communication, strong follow-through, and the ability to keep projects on schedule while supporting overall sales and business goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage lighting and electrical product projects from contract award through procurement, delivery, and closeout
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, providing regular updates on project status, schedules, and changes
  • Develop and manage project schedules, milestones, and deliverables to ensure projects are completed on time.
  • Prepare and submit progressive billing, including schedules of values, pay applications, and percent complete invoicing.
  • Partner with Accounting to reconcile project billing, monitor payments, and follow up on outstanding invoices
  • Review project specifications, drawings, and submittals to confirm product configurations meet customer requirements
  • Manage change orders, including scope, pricing, and schedule impacts, and communicate them clearly to all parties
  • Identify and resolve project risks, discrepancies, or delays before they impact the customer
  • Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain to ensure project accuracy and feasibility
  • Support Sales with project pricing and quotations as needed
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, records, and reporting in company systems
  • Stay current on lighting technologies, electrical products, industry standards, and applicable codes

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of project management experience, preferably in electrical, construction, or distribution environments
  • Direct experience with progressive billing
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel required); experience with project management or ERP systems preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret project specifications, technical documents, and drawings
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to manage customer and vendor relationships

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with lighting or electrical products, including reading lighting layouts and product specifications
  • Experience managing supplier and vendor relationships, including purchase orders, expediting, and delivery tracking
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or similar credentials

Working Conditions:

  • In a typical interior/warehouse/office environment: work performed in an Office setting is largely sedentary and must be able to sit for long durations of time.
  • Warehouse environment with exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, and fumes.
  • May require standing or walking for more than 4 hours per day.
  • Able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Requires the ability to drive a company or personal vehicle.
  • Occasional travel to customer sites.
