Tooling Engineer
Location: Rocket Park, FL
Pay Rate: $54.82–$80.80/hr
Job Type:12-month Contract
We are seeking an experienced Tooling Engineer to support the design and development of tooling for advanced aerospace manufacturing. This role will design simple tooling, identify tooling needs based on production flow, develop effective solutions, and resolve technical challenges throughout the manufacturing process.
Responsibilities
- Design, create, and release CAD models and engineering drawings for tooling.
- Design assembly fixtures, material-handling equipment, test fixtures, structural weldments, and custom machinery.
- Manage tooling projects from concept through fabrication, installation, commissioning, and proof testing.
- Support tooling procurement, fabrication, inspection, repair, and rework.
- Perform root cause analysis and support corrective actions for manufacturing nonconformances.
- Develop material-handling and packaging requirements to protect hardware.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers, designers, and integration teams to improve safety, quality, cost, cycle time, reliability, and maintainability.
- Apply GD&T and ASME Y14.5 standards to tooling designs and drawings.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of direct manufacturing experience.
- Experience with tooling design, fabrication, and procurement.
- Experience with CAD-based modeling and drafting.
- Experience with Creo Parametric and Windchill.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design and manufacturing principles.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T / ASME Y14.5.
- Ability to identify load cases, create free-body diagrams, and perform basic engineering calculations.
- Must meet applicable U.S. person requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering.
- Aerospace, space, defense, or advanced manufacturing experience.
- Experience with DFM/DFA and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Knowledge of CNC machining, manual mills/lathes, welding, sheet-metal fabrication, lifting/rigging, assembly, and inspection.
- Experience with FEA / ANSYS Workbench Static Structural.
- Experience taking designs from development through rate production.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently.
