Job Description

This role involves working in an outdoor machine shop environment, performing general labor tasks such as breaking down pallets, feeding wood into a wood chipper, maintaining cleanliness around the dock receiving area, and assisting in the shop with pallet shrink-wrapping. The position requires a strong focus on safety and attention to detail while working around machinery and in an active warehouse setting.

Responsibilities

  • Break down pallets and prepare wood materials for processing.
  • Feed wood into a wood chipper machine in a safe and controlled manner.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties around the dock receiving area, including sweeping and removing debris and trash.
  • Maintain a clean and organized outdoor work area to support safe operations.
  • Assist in the machine shop with shrink-wrapping pallets for shipping or storage.
  • Follow established safety procedures when working around heavy machinery and equipment.
  • Use proper personal protective equipment and adhere to machine safety guidelines at all times.
  • Support general labor tasks as needed in the warehouse and machine shop.
  • Communicate any safety concerns or equipment issues to appropriate personnel promptly.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to ensure efficient workflow and a safe work environment.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in general labor roles in outdoor or industrial environments.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Basic understanding of machine safety and safe work practices around heavy machinery.
  • Ability to operate or work around wood chippers and similar equipment safely.
  • Strong awareness of workplace safety and commitment to maintaining a safe environment.
  • Capability to perform housekeeping tasks including sweeping, trash removal, and general cleanup.
  • Reliability and punctuality in a warehouse and machine shop setting.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and as part of a team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Landscaping is a plus, especially experience with outdoor equipment and grounds maintenance.
  • Experience in construction or related trades is beneficial.
  • Prior experience as a heavy machinery operator is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with pallet handling and shrink-wrapping processes is helpful.
  • Comfort working in a large, busy warehouse and open machine shop environment.

Work Environment

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fremont, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
