Position Summary
Under the direction of the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Program Director, the Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC) provides addiction-focused services to individuals within the DC Department of Corrections at the Central Detention Facility (CDF) and Correctional Treatment Facility (CTF). The CAC maintains a caseload and provides strength-based, evidence-based individual and group rehabilitation services to individuals experiencing substance use disorders and other complex behavioral, medical, and social needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide case management for Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) patients in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team.
- Provide individualized addiction and recovery services, including relapse prevention, medication support, wellness management, housing, employment resources, and community support.
- Provide individual and group rehabilitation services for adults with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.
- Lead or co-lead groups, workshops, and educational sessions based on client needs.
- Complete timely documentation of assessments, counseling sessions, groups, interventions, and recommendations in the electronic health record.
- Collaborate with discharge planners to coordinate community referrals and continuity of care.
- Participate in treatment planning, supervision, training, and SUD program activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Social Work.
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Certified Addiction Counselor I or II through the District of Columbia Department of Health.
- Minimum of three years of experience working with substance use and co-occurring disorders.
- Experience working with individuals with opioid addiction preferred.
- Counselors currently in recovery must have at least five years of continuous recovery.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- Spanish-speaking ability preferred.
