Welding Engineer – Robotic Welding Fixture Design

Farris Fab Machine, Inc. is seeking an experienced Weld / Industrial Engineer with a

strong background in metal fabrication, welding processes, and robotic welding. This position

will work closely with our engineering and production teams to develop efficient welding

processes, design weld fixtures, and support both manual and robotic welding operations.

The ideal candidate combines hands-on welding knowledge with strong engineering and

SolidWorks skills and understands how to take a fabricated product from print through an

efficient, repeatable production process.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop weld fixtures and tooling for manual and robotic welding

applications

Create fixture designs and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks

Develop and optimize welding processes for fabricated assemblies

Perform offline robotic welding programming

Support setup, programming, troubleshooting, and optimization of robotic welding

systems

Work directly with welders, production supervisors, engineering, and quality personnel to

improve manufacturability

Evaluate new and existing jobs for welding efficiency, cycle-time reduction, fixture

requirements, and automation opportunities

Troubleshoot weld quality, distortion, fit-up, and production issues

Assist with process development for new product introductions and first-article builds

Recommend improvements to welding methods, tooling, equipment, and workflow

Help establish repeatable processes that improve weld quality, throughput, and operator

efficiency

Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout fabrication and welding

operations

Qualifications

5–10 years of welding and/or weld engineering experience in a manufacturing or metal

fabrication environment

Strong practical knowledge of welding processes and fabricated assemblies

Demonstrated experience designing weld fixtures and tooling

Proficiency with SolidWorks

Experience with robotic welding systems and offline robot programming

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, GDT, and

manufacturing specifications

Strong understanding of weld sequencing, distortion control, joint design, tolerances, and

fixture requirements

Ability to work effectively with both engineering personnel and shop-floor production

teams

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification preferred

Experience programming and supporting industrial welding robots

Experience with robotic/cobot welding cells in a production fabrication environment

Background in lean manufacturing, process improvement, or industrial engineering

Experience developing welding processes for low- to mid-volume fabricated products

Compensation

Pay is dependent upon experience, technical capabilities, and qualifications.

$80,000.00 – $90,000.00 +
