Senior Accountant

A growing, privately held family office is seeking a Senior Accountant to work directly with the Controller in supporting the financial reporting and accounting needs of a diverse portfolio of majority-owned businesses.

The organization currently oversees more than 20 individual entities across a variety of industries, with additional businesses continuing to be added. This position will help ensure consistent month-end close processes are followed, financial information is accurate and reliable, and ownership has the information needed to make informed business decisions.

The initial focus will be supporting a nationwide specialized trucking and freight business. This will include balance sheet cleanup, account reconciliations, understanding historical accounting activity, and helping establish more standardized processes and procedures. Over time, the Senior Accountant will gain exposure to additional businesses and industries throughout the portfolio.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant who has developed a strong foundation in general accounting and wants broader exposure, increased ownership, and the opportunity to learn directly from an experienced Controller.

Key Responsibilities

• Support and gradually take ownership of month-end close processes for assigned entities.
• Prepare and review journal entries and general ledger activity.
• Perform balance sheet and bank account reconciliations.
• Research historical accounting activity and assist with balance sheet cleanup.
• Identify discrepancies and determine appropriate accounting treatment.
• Assist with month-end financial reporting and ensure ownership receives accurate and reliable financial information.
• Review accounts payable and accounts receivable activity.
• Assist with cash management and cash reporting.
• Track and report key performance indicators.
• Develop, document, and improve accounting procedures and standard operating processes.
• Help create greater consistency and repeatability within the monthly close process.
• Partner with bookkeeping and operational personnel across individual businesses.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and controls.
• Take on additional businesses and responsibilities as the portfolio continues to grow.

Qualifications

• Approximately 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience preferred.
• Solid understanding of general ledger accounting, debits and credits, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close.
• Experience working beyond a strictly transactional AP or AR function.
• Ability to research accounting issues, identify discrepancies, and work through problems with appropriate guidance.
• Experience with balance sheet cleanup or process improvement is a plus, but not required.
• Multi-entity accounting experience is helpful but not required.
• QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Enterprise experience is a plus.
• Accounting degree and/or CPA are not required.
• Must be comfortable working primarily in-office in Burleson.
