Position Overview
Reliance One is hiring three Production Supervisors for an established automotive manufacturing company in Saginaw, Michigan.
The Production Supervisor will lead approximately 40 hourly employees, including production operators and skilled trades employees, in a fast-paced, unionized manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for the effective use of personnel, materials, and equipment while meeting production, safety, quality, cost, and delivery goals.
The ideal candidate is a respectful, hands-on leader who can motivate employees, solve problems, manage daily staffing needs, and collaborate effectively with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and other departments.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily startup meetings with team leaders and review production priorities.
- Supervise, train, develop, and evaluate hourly production employees.
- Review daily staffing, attendance, vacation schedules, and employee assignments.
- Coordinate employee placement and job rotation based on production requirements.
- Lead teams using a coaching-focused leadership style that builds trust, accountability, and employee engagement.
- Assign work, monitor progress, and ensure production targets are achieved.
- Maintain accurate daily documentation, production records, audit results, and end-of-shift reports.
- Provide clear cross-shift communication regarding production status, quality concerns, staffing needs, and unresolved issues.
- Track and report safety, quality, cost, productivity, attendance, and operational performance metrics.
- Present results, concerns, and action plans to plant leadership.
- Maintain awareness of quality standards and communicate departmental quality goals.
- Coordinate resources and lead problem-solving activities to resolve safety, quality, equipment, and production issues.
- Implement corrective actions that prevent known issues from recurring.
- Promote safe work practices, ergonomics, housekeeping, and compliance with health and safety requirements.
- Motivate and develop employees using standardized work methods and job-instruction training.
- Build positive working relationships with hourly employees, union representatives, management, and cross-functional teams.
- Consistently administer applicable company policies and labor agreements.
- Support production launches, pilot activities, and process-improvement initiatives.
- Apply Lean manufacturing principles to reduce variation, control costs, eliminate waste, and improve productivity.
- Anticipate staffing and training needs to prevent disruptions to production.
- Address employee concerns and workplace conflicts fairly, respectfully, and objectively.
- Recommend process improvements and lead cross-functional efforts to implement solutions.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least two years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to lead employees respectfully and hold teams accountable for results.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with Production, Quality, Maintenance, skilled trades, and leadership.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Experience tracking operational metrics and reporting results to leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous production supervision, group leader, or team leader experience.
- Experience supervising a team of hourly manufacturing employees.
- Experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, standardized work, and continuous-improvement principles.
- Experience supporting production launches or pilot manufacturing activities.
