Commercial Insurance Broker

INNOVATIVE WICKSHIRE COUNTRYSIDE

Tampa, FL • $100,000 to $150,000 / yr • 10/6/2026

Job Description

Job Description

This is an opportunity to do more than manage an existing book of business. You will have the chance to help launch and grow a commercial insurance office, serve as Broker of Record, and build a book of business from the ground up.

The role is designed for someone who wants an entrepreneurial path within the insurance industrycombining production, client relationships, carrier development, office operations, and leadership. You will gain hands-on experience in what it takes to build an insurance operation while developing a book of business that can grow substantially over time.

With that opportunity comes responsibility. Building an office requires discipline around production, client retention, carrier relationships, expenses, and overhead. The ideal candidate understands that growth is not guaranteed and is motivated by the opportunity to create value rather than simply inherit an established book.

What You’ll Do
  • Serve as Broker of Record and help establish and operate a growing commercial insurance office.

  • Develop a commercial insurance book of business from the ground up through prospecting, referrals, relationships, and strategic partnerships.

  • Build relationships with commercial clients, insurance carriers, wholesalers, underwriters, and other industry partners.

  • Assess client exposures and structure appropriate property, casualty, general liability, workers’ compensation, commercial auto, and other coverage solutions.

  • Quote and place new business while negotiating coverage, pricing, and terms with carriers.

  • Manage renewals and client relationships with a focus on long-term retention and account growth.

  • Identify cross-selling opportunities and additional coverage needs within existing accounts.

  • Help develop the office's processes, systems, carrier relationships, service standards, and overall operating structure.

  • Monitor production and expenses while understanding the economics of operating and growing an insurance brokerage.

  • Over time, help recruit, train, and develop additional producers and service personnel as the book expands.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who wants to build, not simply maintain.

The right candidate should be comfortable with the uncertainty and responsibility that come with launching an office and developing a new book of business. This opportunity may be particularly attractive to someone who ultimately wants to operate, own, or lead an insurance agency and wants hands-on experience learning how the business works from the ground up.

Candidates should have:

  • Commercial insurance, brokerage, underwriting, production, or account-management experience.

  • The licensing and qualifications necessary to serve as Broker of Record, or the ability to obtain them.

  • Strong sales, communication, and relationship-building skills.

  • Working knowledge of commercial insurance products and carrier markets.

  • An entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to actively pursue new business.

  • Strong organizational skills and personal accountability.

  • Comfort operating in an environment where compensation and growth are tied to successfully building and retaining business.

Why This Opportunity Is Different

Rather than stepping into a traditional insurance position with a mature book and established infrastructure, you will have an opportunity to participate in the creation of the business itself.

You will learn firsthand how to:

  • Build a commercial insurance book with a large pre-existing book of business.

  • Develop carrier and wholesale relationships.

  • Win and retain commercial accounts.

  • Structure coverage and negotiate placements.

  • Understand commissions and brokerage economics.

  • Manage office expenses and overhead.

  • Develop systems and processes as an agency grows.

  • Recruit and manage a team as production increases.

  • Build the skills necessary to eventually operate a substantial insurance business.

There is meaningful upside for someone who successfully grows the operation, but candidates should also understand the realities of entrepreneurship. A new office carries overhead, production expectations, and the risk that business takes time to develop.

We view that challenge as part of the opportunity: the successful candidate will have the chance to develop a valuable book of business while gaining practical experience in nearly every aspect of building and operating a commercial insurance brokerage.

Long-Term Opportunity

Our objective is not simply to fill a position. We want to build a commercial insurance operation that can grow significantly over time.

For the right individual, this role can evolve from Broker of Record and producer into a leadership position responsible for a growing office, book of business, and team. As production expands, so can the candidate's responsibilities, earning potential, and long-term opportunity within the organization.
