Key Responsibilities of the Role

As a pivotal clinical leader and Rehab unit manager, the Unit Manager RN ensures exceptional patient recovery outcomes, maintains optimal nursing staff performance, and manages smooth, compliant daily unit operations:

  • Rehabilitation Clinical Oversight & Daily Rounds:

    • Conduct systematic daily nursing rounds across the post-acute rehabilitation unit to evaluate patient physical progress, assess complex wound care, monitor IV therapies, and detect subtle acute changes in condition.

    • Review individualized care plans regularly to ensure all nursing interventions align with attending physician orders and specialized physical, occupational, and speech therapy goals.

    • Lead acute clinical interventions, post-surgical care routines, and complex pain management protocols.

  • Staff Supervision, Leadership & Performance Coaching:

    • Directly supervise, mentor, and empower charge nurses, LPNs, and CNAs on the shift, promoting clinical accountability, teamwork, and compassionate care delivery.

    • Oversee medication administration practices, infection control techniques, and EHR charting to guarantee absolute precision across the care team.

    • Conduct performance evaluations, manage staff scheduling, and provide real-time coaching to cultivate a high-performing rehabilitation nursing team.

  • Regulatory Compliance, Quality Assurance & EHR Standards:

    • Maintain meticulous medical records in strict compliance with HIPAA standards, state nurse practice acts, and federal/state long-term care regulations.

    • Actively participate in facility Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) committees, safety audits, infection control monitoring, and fall reduction strategies.

    • Ensure the unit remains fully survey-ready at all times for state health inspections.

  • Interdisciplinary Coordination & Family Communication:

    • Partner seamlessly with attending physicians, medical directors, physiatrists, physical/occupational/speech therapists, social workers, and clinical dietitians to foster a holistic recovery environment.

    • Act as the primary clinical liaison for family members, conducting routine update calls, addressing concerns promptly, and facilitating comprehensive discharge planning and education.

  • Unit Operations & Resource Management:

    • Manage unit supplies, medication room inventory, and adaptive clinical equipment to maintain an organized, fully functional rehabilitation setting.

    • Manage resident admissions, internal unit transfers, and discharge procedures efficiently while maintaining appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios.

Qualifications
  • Licensure: Must hold an active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Wisconsin (or multi-state NLC equivalent).

  • Certifications: Current CPR / Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.

  • Clinical Experience: 2+ years of clinical nursing experience required. Prior management, supervisory, or unit leadership experience as a Unit Manager RN or Rehab unit manager in post-acute rehabilitation, skilled nursing, inpatient rehab, or surgical care environments is highly advantageous.

  • Tech Proficiency: Solid working knowledge of computers, standard Electronic Health Records (EHR) platforms (e.g., PointClickCare), and digital clinical tools.
