Job Title: Material Handler

Job Description

The General Production Worker handles materials, operates production machinery, and supports the packaging and shipping of finished products in an industrial manufacturing environment. This role assists with the setup and operation of automated equipment that applies a weatherizing solution to large paper rolls used to wrap concrete forms for the construction industry. The position also involves general shop support, including cleanup and forklift operation to move materials safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Handle raw materials and finished goods safely throughout the production process.
  • Operate automated production machinery used to apply weatherizing solutions to large paper rolls.
  • Assist with setup, adjustment, and basic operation of industrial and automated machinery.
  • Package and label finished products accurately according to specifications and shipping requirements.
  • Prepare products for shipping, including staging, wrapping, and organizing loads for transport.
  • Perform general shop help duties such as cleaning work areas, removing debris, and maintaining a tidy workspace.
  • Operate forklifts to move materials, products, and supplies around the facility in a safe manner.
  • Use hand tools and power tools as needed to support production and maintenance tasks.
  • Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Work effectively in a rotating shift schedule, adapting to day, swing, and night shifts.
  • Monitor equipment and materials for issues and promptly report concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Collaborate with team members and support continuous improvement in productivity and safety.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working in a manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial environment, or strong interest and comfort in industrial work settings.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate industrial machinery and automated production equipment.
  • Ability to perform general labor tasks including materials handling, packaging, labeling, and shop cleanup.
  • Comfort using hand tools and power tools in a production setting.
  • Previous forklift operating experience is highly preferred, with willingness to train if needed.
  • Strong attention to safety, including consistent use of PPE and adherence to safety procedures around heavy machinery and chemicals.
  • Willingness and ability to work a rotating schedule that includes day, swing, and night shifts.
  • Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic, with a positive attitude and drive to learn.
  • Ability to work in a loud, fast-paced environment and remain focused on quality and safety.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Manufacturing, warehouse operations, or other industrial fields is preferred.
  • Comfort working around chemicals in a controlled industrial environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing tasks and support various aspects of production as needed.
  • Team-oriented mindset with good communication skills and willingness to take direction.
  • Interest in long-term employment and growth within an industrial manufacturing setting.

Work Environment

The role is based in an industrial manufacturing facility with heavy machinery and loud equipment, where safety and attention to detail are critical. The work schedule rotates between three MondayFriday shifts every eight weeks: Day shift (6:45 AM 3:00 PM), Swing shift (2:45 PM 11:00 PM), and Night shift (10:45 PM 7:00 AM), rotating from night to swing to day. Team members must be open to working all three shifts. The environment requires the use of personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, hard hats, earplugs, and safety glasses, and close adherence to safety protocols. Work is performed around chemicals in a controlled setting, and employees are expected to maintain clean, organized work areas while operating industrial machinery and forklifts.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of PORTLAND, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.63 - $25.63/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
