What a Day Looks Like

You’ll be the go-to expert keeping advanced automation running smoothly. Your morning may start by reviewing overnight performance, jumping in to troubleshoot a production cell, and refining ladder logic to stabilize throughput. By midday, you could be touching up Fanuc or ABB robot points to improve cycle time, updating a PanelView HMI, and coordinating schedules across multiple projects. Some weeks you’ll visit sister plants to support launches or resolve controls challenges. Along the way, you’ll document electrical drawings, coach technicians, and help the team quote the next upgrade with accurate models.

Your Impact
  • Support production by diagnosing and programming both legacy and new plant automation systems to minimize downtime.
  • Design and program PLC-based control solutions for new machinery and existing equipment upgrades.
  • Travel to sister facilities as needed to complete core responsibilities and provide on-site expertise.
  • Own timelinesmaintain reliable project and task schedules across multiple plant initiatives.
  • Program robots and adjust points to meet evolving production needs.
  • Partner with production and process engineering to optimize line flow, resolve cycle-time constraints, and address quality issues through controls changes and troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to preventive maintenance planning for current and incoming equipment.
  • Advance new technologies that improve cycle times and strengthen quality detection/prevention systems.
  • Train plant technicians and engineers on controls fundamentals and best practices.
  • Create and update equipment electrical drawings to reflect as-built conditions.
  • Collaborate with plant teams to build accurate cost/effort quoting models.
Background We’re Looking ForEducation
  • BSEE or BSME required
Experience
  • 3–5 years programming and troubleshooting PLCs and industrial robots
  • 1–3 years with Siemens S7 is a plus
Technical Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of Fanuc and ABB robot operations
  • Networking and fieldbus proficiency: Ethernet cabling/addressing, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, RIO, and wireless PC networking
  • MMI/HMI concepts; familiarity with PanelView Plus and PanelView hardware
  • Cognex In-Sight software experience
  • Ladder logic and AllenBradley platforms: PLC5, SLC 500, ControlLogix, MicroLogix; RIO and Ethernet/IP; DeviceNet
  • AC/DC motors and servo systems, including drives such as Kinetix, Ultra3000, PowerFlex, 1305, and 1338
  • Ability to wire industrial control systems (480V/120V/24V), drives, motors, I/O, and sensors
  • Electrical troubleshooting with the ability to read and interpret electrical prints
  • Proficiency with RSNetWorx, RSView Studio, and PanelBuilder
  • Ability to connect to PLCs and navigate programming software
Other Requirements
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Valid driver’s license for business travel
  • Willingness to work beyond 40 hours as needed, including nights, weekends, and holidays
