Summary

The Sustaining Engineer will serve as a key technical resource throughout the product lifecycle, supporting design validation, manufacturing readiness, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement efforts. This individual will collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Supplier Quality, and Customer teams to ensure successful product performance and production support.

Responsibilities
Oversee the engineering change process
Support all DOE activities
Work with manufacturing engineering on DFM/DFA analysis
Support manufacturing and quality with plant build issues and root cause analysis
Update DFMEA’s as required
Ensure SPV testing performed as required, results and actions communicated to organization
Support cost reduction activities as appropriate
Support Purchasing and SQA with technical input in to supply base issues
Support plant liaisons with technical input in to customer assembly plant issues
Support CIP activities as appropriate
Support all Kaizen activities as appropriate
Utilize appropriate CAD system, access and make minor updates to drawings

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; or 2 to 5 years of automotive experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience supporting product development, manufacturing, and quality initiatives within the automotive industry.
Knowledge of engineering change management processes.
Familiarity with DFMEA, DFM/DFA methodologies, root cause analysis, and validation testing.
Experience working with CAD software and engineering drawings.
Understanding of IATF 16949 quality standards and automotive industry requirements.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional manufacturing environment.


Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting automotive roof systems, closures, interiors, or related vehicle systems.
Exposure to supplier quality, cost reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Experience participating in Kaizen events and Lean Manufacturing environments.
