Job Title: Quality Inspector 1st ShiftJob Description

This 1st shift Quality Inspector role focuses on performing detailed quality checks on manufactured parts, packing approved products, and preparing them for shipment. You will work in a small, supportive quality team, primarily in a seated position, ensuring that every part meets established standards before it leaves the facility.

Responsibilities
  • Perform visual quality inspections on bins of parts to ensure they meet established specifications and standards.
  • Identify and separate nonconforming or defective parts according to quality procedures.
  • Accurately pack inspected parts into boxes in a safe and organized manner.
  • Weigh materials and packed boxes to confirm correct quantities and compliance with shipping requirements.
  • Label boxes clearly and accurately with all required information for traceability and shipping.
  • Place labeled boxes into larger containers or shipping boxes for final shipment.
  • Collaborate with two other inspectors in the quality department to maintain consistent inspection practices.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Sit for extended periods while performing inspections and packing tasks.
  • Follow all company safety guidelines and quality procedures throughout the inspection and packing process.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience performing quality checks or inspections in a manufacturing or similar environment.
  • At least 1 year of experience in packing or packaging operations.
  • Ability to perform consistent visual checks on parts to detect defects or irregularities.
  • Capability to sit for an 810 hour workday while performing inspection and packing tasks.
  • General labor skills, including handling bins of parts, boxes, and materials safely.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in weighing, labeling, and preparing products for shipment.
  • Ability to follow established quality procedures and work instructions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment involving fabrication, machining, or assembly.
  • Comfort working in a structured, process-driven quality department.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple bins of parts and maintain proper labeling and documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small team of inspectors.
  • Basic understanding of shipping preparation processes, including weighing and labeling.

Work Environment

This position is based in a clean manufacturing facility that produces conveyor systems for the coal mining industry. The site houses fabrication, CNC machining, assembly, and mold making operations, offering a dynamic production environment. The Quality Inspector works primarily in a seated role, handling bins of parts, boxes, and weighing equipment as part of daily tasks. The urethane area of the facility can become warm during the summer months due to heat from ovens, and employees should be comfortable working in those conditions when needed. The role follows a 1st shift schedule of 6:30 am to 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday, providing stable daytime hours.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
