Desired Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings preferred
  • Understanding of Deaf culture and best practices for accessibility
  • National Interpreter Certification (NIC) or equivalent, or eligibility for certification
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  • Passion for promoting inclusive education

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into American Sign Languageand vice versaduring classroom instruction, assemblies, and meetings
  • Support Deaf or Hard of Hearing students in accessing curriculum and participating in school activities
  • Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and parents to facilitate a supportive learning environment
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional interpreter standards
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute insights to individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Assist in clarifying assignments and classroom instructions, providing equal access for all students
