About Us
Craft Master Custom Pools has been building custom gunite pools in Southeast Florida since 1994 more than 3,000 pools across Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie and Broward counties.
Here is the part most job postings leave out. This is a legacy company under new ownership, and we are writing our playbook one day at a time. The reputation and the craft are thirty years old; the systems around them are being built right now, by us, this year. Some of what you need in this role will not exist yet when you start you will help build it.
That is either exactly the job you want or exactly the one you don't, and we would rather you know which before you apply.
Role Summary
You own job-level profit and loss on 20 pool construction projects simultaneously. You live in JobTread tracking costs, approving change orders, and preventing scope creep before it bleeds margin. You pair daily with a Field Supervisor who owns execution; you own the P&L. Together, you catch problems early and move fast.
Most pool firms treat this as a scorekeeper rolesomeone who runs reports after the damage is done. We don't. We need someone who is proactive about finding cost and schedule risks, then does something about them before they become crises.
Owned Accountabilities
- Job P&L ownership. Every job closes at or above the bid margin. You track actual cost vs. estimate in JobTread daily. You spot variances ($1,500+) in real time, not in month-end reports. You own material-cost coding, labor variance analysis, and warranty claims allocation.
- Change order velocity. You price change orders, not the office. You get them in front of the client within 48 hours of the request. You confirm client signature within 72 hours. You know the contract coldwhat's in scope, what triggers a CO, and what doesn't.
- Scope control. You say "no, that's out of scope" to clients and make it stick. You have the contract reference and the cost backup. You prevent the slow scope creep that kills margins on otherwise solid jobs.
- Client communication. You're the first call when a cost risk surfaces, a change is needed, or a delay hits the schedule. You own the tonehonest, factual, fast. You call subs and clients before problems become crises. You listen for what they're not saying (frustration, confusion, unmet expectations).
- JobTread mastery. You manage job costing and revenue recognition daily. You code purchases by job and cost code correctly on first entry (not catching mistakes weeks later). You run your own cost reports and trend analysis. If you're waiting for the office to run a report, this role isn't right for you.
- Daily partnership with Field Supervisor. You talk to your assigned Supervisor every day. You flag cost risks together. You coordinate change orders and material delivery against the schedule. You're united on scope and timelinethe client hears one message from both of you.
Required Qualifications
- Pool construction experience. You've worked in pool construction (residential or commercial) for at least 3 years. You understand the materials, the trades, the typical cost drivers, and the schedule rhythms. You can challenge a plumbing sub's invoice or spot an error in a decking estimate. You know what to expect when permits slip or weather delays framing.
- JobTread mastery. You have hands-on experience in JobTread. Not "I've seen someone use it" you've managed job costing, run cost reports, and coded purchases. You move through JobTread confidently and know how to find and fix cost variances. If your JobTread experience is light, we will ask for examples.
- Change order management. You've written, priced, and tracked change orders in a construction business. You understand contract language well enough to spot whether something is in scope or not. You know how to talk to clients about cost changes without sounding defensive or apologetic.
- Comfort with numbers. You're not intimidated by cost analysis, variance reports, or P&L tracking. You can do math without a calculator and catch a $500 error in a $50,000 estimate. You think in margin percentages, not just totals.
- Proactive communication skills. You pick up the phone instead of sending emails when there's a problem. You deliver bad news clearly and early. You listen for what clients and subs need and anticipate pushback before they voice it. You prefer talking to writing; detail is backed by conversation.
- Attention to detail. You live in details and like it. You catch small errors before they compound. You follow up on loose ends. You maintain systems and checklists because they keep things from falling through cracks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Southeast Florida pool market experience. You know the permit timelines, the subcontractor network, the material suppliers, and the seasonal workflows in our region. You have relationships.
- Multi-job portfolio management. You've managed 15+ concurrent jobs and know how to prioritize where your attention matters most.
- Warranty and service cost tracking. You've calculated warranty claims by job type and reason, and understand how to prevent repeat failures.
- Supplier relationship management. You've negotiated terms with vendors and tracked pricing trends to improve margins over time.
- Experience pairing with field supervisors or site managers. You know how to work with someone whose primary job is on-site execution. You don't duplicate their work; you feed them information and they feed you problems to solve.
- Conflict resolution with clients and subs. You've navigated disputes, walked people back from bad decisions, and maintained relationships while holding firm on scope and budget.
Who Succeeds Here / Who Doesn't
You'll Thrive in This Role If:
- You enjoy living in the details and spotting problems before they blow up.
- You're comfortable delivering hard truths (to clients, to subs, to leadership) in a respectful way.
- You think in systems and checklistsnot because you're rigid, but because systems catch mistakes.
- You prefer solving problems to documenting them. You move fast and correct course as you learn.
- You like working with a Field Supervisor as an equal partner. You give feedback, they give feedback, you both own the outcome.
- You're energized by preventing crises, not putting them out.
- You're OK with phone calls and brief, frequent check-ins over long written reports.
You're Not a Fit If:
- You need someone else to own the numbers. (You own them here.)
- You avoid difficult conversations or prefer to stay out of conflict.
- You think "that's how construction is" instead of asking "how do we do this better?"
- You prefer field work to office work. This is an office-based role.
- You want clear, step-by-step direction on every task. You'll be working with autonomy and expected to anticipate what needs attention.
- You see change orders as paperwork to process, not as the heartbeat of margin protection.
- You think a PM's job is to keep everyone happy. (It's to keep the job profitable.)
- You need 6+ weeks to close out a job's numbers.
