Position Summary
The Surgical Technology Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction to students in the Surgical Technology program. Faculty members mentor students, promote clinical excellence, and prepare graduates for successful careers as Surgical Technologists in hospitals, surgery centers, and healthcare organizations.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Learning
- Deliver engaging lectures, laboratory instruction, and clinical skills training.
- Prepare lesson plans, syllabi, exams, assignments, and instructional materials.
- Teach aseptic technique, surgical procedures, instrumentation, patient safety, and operating room practices.
- Facilitate hands-on skills development in simulated and laboratory environments.
- Evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback.
Student Success & Advising
- Monitor student attendance, academic progress, and professional development.
- Provide one-on-one mentoring and academic support.
- Encourage student engagement and retention.
- Prepare students for certification and employment opportunities within the healthcare industry.
Academic Administration
- Maintain student records, grades, and attendance documentation.
- Submit required academic reports and evaluations.
- Support curriculum implementation and continuous improvement efforts.
- Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and professional development activities.
Program Support
- Monitor laboratory equipment and supply needs.
- Ensure instructional materials remain current with industry standards.
- Support accreditation, compliance, and institutional initiatives.
- Collaborate with campus leadership and fellow faculty members to enhance student outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- Associate Degree or higher.
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential.
- Minimum of four (4) years of recent professional Surgical Technology experience.
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Passion for mentoring and developing future healthcare professionals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior teaching, training, preceptor, or clinical instructor experience.
- Experience in postsecondary education or workforce training.
- Leadership experience within a surgical services department.
