Job Title: GxP Lab TechnicianJob DescriptionThis role supports a dynamic laboratory community by providing end-to-end lab services in a regulated GxP environment. The GxP Lab Technician prepares and manages chemical and biological media, maintains stockrooms and inventories, supports bulk product and project activities, and ensures safe handling of chemicals and hazardous waste. Working under minimal supervision, this position collaborates closely with scientists, vendors, and internal teams to keep laboratory operations running smoothly and in full compliance with safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities- Perform lab services functions under minimal supervision to support the laboratory community and ensure continuity of research activities.
- Communicate regularly with the supervisor regarding consumable supply stock, glassware needs, specialty gas cylinder stock, instrument maintenance, and software upgrades.
- Maintain stockroom inventories according to thresholds determined by the customers stockroom managers and ensure timely replenishment.
- Fulfill internal and external chemical requests submitted by customers, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and timely delivery.
- Coordinate with customers and the shipping department to schedule inter-site and intra-site shipments of materials.
- Assist with the organization and maintenance of chemical stockrooms, laboratory supply stockrooms, and site-wide inventories.
- Fulfill media and solution requests submitted by customers, ensuring correct preparation and documentation.
- Take full responsibility for chemical and biological media orders, including calculations, documentation, autoclaving, labeling, and delivery of sensitive formulations critical to research experiments.
- Handle buffers, growth media, and petri dishes, and support projects and bulk product activities, including work with 5-liter bottles and larger orders.
- Apply aseptic techniques consistently when preparing media, solutions, and handling biological materials.
- Collect and consolidate hazardous waste generated from laboratories and maintain storage of waste according to customer policies and applicable regulations.
- Where applicable, comply with all GxP regulations and documentation requirements while performing services.
- Collect, track, and supply operational metrics as required by management.
- Assist in and actively participate in cross-training efforts for all applicable lab services duties to ensure flexibility and coverage across the team.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized working environment within laboratory and office areas.
- Follow all site, departmental, and job-specific safety standards and policies, including the proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Maintain open communication with the lab services and facilities management teams to support coordinated operations.
- Interact professionally with the customer base, colleagues, and vendors to maintain strong working relationships and exceed service expectations.
- Perform other duties within the lab services department as requested by management.
- Handle the physical demands of the role, including moving medical waste, gas tanks, masks, lab coats, and other laboratory materials as needed.
Essential Skills- Demonstrated proficiency in aseptic techniques when working with chemical and biological materials.
- Comfort working with chemicals and no reluctance to handle various chemical agents in a laboratory setting.
- Hands-on experience with buffers, growth media, and petri dishes in a lab environment.
- Experience supporting projects and bulk product activities, including handling larger volume containers such as 5-liter bottles.
- Minimum of 1+ years of experience in a GMP or GxP laboratory environment handling various chemicals.
- Ability to safely collect, consolidate, and manage hazardous waste in compliance with regulations and site policies.
- Strong understanding of laboratory safety practices and a commitment to comply with all safety standards and policies.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs for documentation, tracking, and communication.
- Good communication skills to work effectively with internal stakeholders and external pharmaceutical vendors.
- Ability to handle the physical demands of the role, including moving medical waste, tanks, masks, lab coats, and other lab materials.
- Ability to multi-task and work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with management, employees, and customers at all levels.
- Valid drivers license and ability to complete appropriate training based on vehicles utilized where applicable.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Bachelors Degree or Associates Degree in a technical field or in the sciences preferred; equivalent work experience acceptable.
- Prior knowledge and experience in a regulated GxP environment such as pharmaceutical, medical device, or other life science industries preferred.
- Experience working in a GMP laboratory environment, including handling various chemicals and supporting regulated operations.
- Experience with inventory management systems, purchasing systems, and other scientific applications preferred.
- Prior exposure to handling growth media, bulk product preparation, and laboratory chemical logistics.
- Ability to function effectively in a dynamic work environment with changing priorities.
- Strong team orientation and commitment to working in a safe, high-performance, and quality-driven environment.
- Flexibility and willingness to participate in cross-training across multiple lab services functions.
- IATA, DOT, RCRA, and HAZWOPER certifications preferred.
- Familiarity with regulatory and safety requirements related to chemical and biological agents, including those that may be hazardous to health if mishandled.
Work EnvironmentThis position is based at a laboratory site that operates under regulated GxP and GMP standards within a life sciences setting. The role involves daily work with chemical and biological agents that may be hazardous to health if mishandled, including agents that may potentially affect reproductive health or fetal development. Employees must follow all safety procedures and use personal protective clothing and equipment provided by the company as specified. The environment includes laboratories, stockrooms, and office areas, with frequent interaction with scientific staff, facilities teams, and vendors. The work involves handling chemicals, growth media, buffers, bulk products, gas cylinders, and hazardous waste, as well as moving medical waste, tanks, masks, lab coats, and other materials. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 - $31.00/hr.
