Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project & Program Manager – Backup Power Solutions to manage projects and programs supporting SDG&E’s Wildfire Mitigation Program. This position will oversee initiatives focused on implementing backup power solutions for critical facilities located within high fire threat districts.
The Project & Program Manager will own projects from planning through implementation and ongoing oversight, coordinating customers, contractors, vendors, internal teams, regulatory requirements, budgets, contracts, and project risks.
The ideal candidate is a highly organized Project Manager who is comfortable managing complex, regulated projects while working with sensitive customers and multiple internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage multiple medium-to-large projects and programs from initial scoping through implementation and ongoing oversight.
- Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, cost estimates, budgets, forecasts, risks, issues, and overall project requirements.
- Lead projects implementing backup power solutions for sensitive and critical facilities in high fire threat districts.
- Manage customer engagement and installation oversight associated with backup power projects.
- Oversee contractors, consultants, vendors, and cross-functional project teams.
- Manage financial activities including budgets, forecasts, invoices, cost tracking, and financial reporting.
- Manage contracts, including contractor and consultant evaluation, negotiations, approvals, and contract changes.
- Coordinate across internal departments to resolve issues and keep projects progressing toward established objectives.
- Support regulatory and compliance requirements associated with the Wildfire Mitigation Program, General Rate Case, CPUC, and California Office of Energy Safety.
- Manage legal and project risks and ensure appropriate issues are identified, tracked, and resolved.
- Oversee completed projects, including Community Resource Centers that utilize backup power to remain energized during Public Safety Power Shutoff events.
- Support the evaluation and integration of new technologies and distributed energy resource solutions that can improve grid utilization.
- Build business cases and project justifications to improve business processes and operational efficiency.
- Prepare project documentation and supporting materials related to project costs and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex projects or programs.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to organize, plan, prioritize, and drive projects to completion.
- Experience managing project budgets, contracts, invoices, vendors, and contractors.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly when reviewing financial information, contracts, project plans, and documentation.
- Ability to work strategically and diplomatically with customers, regulatory stakeholders, vendors, and internal teams.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a highly regulated environment.
Preferred Background
Candidates coming from utilities, energy, electrical infrastructure, distributed energy, backup power, renewable energy, grid modernization, or similar infrastructure environments should translate well into the role.
Experience with regulatory programs, customer-facing utility projects, backup generation, microgrids, distributed energy resources, or wildfire mitigation initiatives would be particularly relevant.
