Overview:
We are seeking a Database Engineer Intern to support the health, performance, and reliability of our database environments. Throughout the summer, you'll work cross functionally with data and technology teams, giving you real visibility into how data powers the business. Under the guidance of senior team members, you'll help monitor performance and support critical maintenance and troubleshooting efforts through automation, documentation, performance tuning, and data migration/disaster recovery efforts.

Responsibilities:

• Helptroubleshootandresolvedatabase-relatedincidents
• Supportthecreationandmaintenanceofdatabasedocumentation,runbooks,andstandardoperatingprocedures
• Assistwithuseraccessmanagement,permissions,andbasicsecurityconfigurations
• WriteandoptimizebasicSQLqueriesfordataretrieval,reporting,andtroubleshooting
• Collaboratewithsoftwareengineersandanalyststosupportdataneedsacrossteams
• Helpidentifyopportunitiestoautomaterepetitiveoperationaltasks
• Learnandapplydatabaseperformancetuningfundamentals(indexing,queryoptimization)
• Assistwithdatamigration,replication,anddisasterrecoverytestingefforts

Requirements:

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Information Systems, or related field and expected to graduate by Summer 2029
• Understandingofrelationaldatabaseconcepts(tables,indexes,keys,normalization)
• Familiarity with SQL and writing queries
• Exposure to at least one database platform (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL)
• Basic understanding of Linux/Windows operating systems
• Experience coding in Python
• Exposure to other scripting languages (Bash, PowerShell, etc.)
• Ability to work onsite at our Chicago office 5 days per week
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Strong communication skills and eagerness to learn

Compensation Range: $40.00 per hour
