Shipyard Structural Assembly FitterAbout the work
  • Lay out and assemble structural steel per engineering specs and digital fabrication drawings.
  • Use electronic drawings to identify parts and confirm correct materials.
  • Measure, mark, and prep using precision tools, tapes, and layout instruments.
  • Grind, drill, ream, countersink, deburr, and straighten as needed for fit-up.
  • Apply SMAW tack welds to hold assemblies prior to final welding.
  • Verify alignment, dimensions, and tolerances; repair or rework to meet quality standards.
  • Complete in-process quality checks to ensure compliance.
  • Operate fabrication equipment safely; uphold company safety and quality procedures.
  • Coordinate closely with welders and other trades to finish assemblies.
Essential experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1–3 years in structural fitting within shipyard, marine, heavy fabrication, or industrial manufacturing.
  • Strong blueprint and digital drawing interpretation skills.
  • Knowledge of structural layout, fit-up, and tolerances.
  • Basic construction math; proficiency with precision measuring tools.
  • Experience with stick welding for tack-up prior to final weld-out.
  • Hands-on use of grinders, drills, and layout tools.
  • Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail with a strong safety focus.
Preferred background
  • Shipyard, vessel construction, or marine fabrication experience.
Schedule options

Initial training will take place on the day shift. Flexibility is required:

  • Day Shift: 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Evening Shift: 3:00 PM – 2:30 AM
  • Overtime is frequent and expected to meet production demand.
