Electrical/Mechanical Assembly

Position Summary

Our client is seeking a skilled Electrical/Mechanical Assembler to support operations at its Rockford, Illinois manufacturing facility. This role is primarily responsible for assembling complex mechanical components and large-scale machinery using engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and detailed specifications, with additional responsibility for electrical wiring, installation, and testing. The Assembler will work closely with cross-functional team members to fabricate, assemble, modify, and support high-performance industrial equipment and jet engine-related assemblies in a manufacturing environment focused on precision, safety, and quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform assembly, fitting, filing, reaming, riveting, crimping, swaging, and adjustment operations on mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Utilize light machine tools, including drill presses, arbor presses, air and hydraulic presses, riveting machines, and hand tools.
  • Trim, file, and fit parts to specification while verifying tolerances using gauges, calipers, micrometers, and precision measuring equipment.
  • Operate torque wrenches, force gauges, dial indicators, and additional precision instruments to ensure assembly accuracy.
  • Collaborate with team members to layout, fabricate, assemble, and modify jet engine assemblies, test articles, support systems, and test stands.
  • Assist in setting up test stands and preparing test articles in accordance with established procedures and engineering requirements.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams to guide wiring and installation work.
  • Install and wire electrical components such as control panels, drives, motors, sensors, and cable systems; route, terminate, and label wiring and cables according to standards.
  • Perform electrical testing and verification using tools such as oscilloscopes and megohmmeters.
  • Operate a variety of tools and support utilities used in assembly and testing operations.
  • Prepare completed assemblies and test articles for transportation and long-term storage.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors and production teams to maintain workflow, quality standards, and operational efficiency.
  • Follow all safety procedures, manufacturing standards, and company policies.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of mechanical assembly experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience using hand and precision tools, including wrenches, calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches, air levels, drills and taps, and hand grinders.
  • Experience operating industrial equipment such as cranes, forklifts, and scissor lifts.
  • Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, blueprints, fluid schematics, and detailed mechanical diagrams.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Ability to interpret assembly tolerance requirements and identify proper tools and methods to achieve specifications.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
  • Experience working with large machinery or industrial equipment.
  • Ability to distinguish color-coded wiring.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, climb ladders, and work at heights for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Dependable, with willingness to work scheduled hours, including overtime, weekends, and second shift as needed.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in electrical assembly, industrial wiring, or a similar role, including 240-480V electrical systems.
  • Machine tool industry experience.
  • Vocational or trade school certification.

Education: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.

Location: Rockford, Illinois.

Travel/Deployment Requirements: Ability to travel to customer sites up to 40% of the time.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $18-$32 p/hr ($37,000 - $66,000 annually)

    - Travel per diem in addition to hourly rate up to $250 p/day.
