Field Service Engineer – CNC & Laser Equipment

Location: Wisconsin / Lakes Region
Schedule: Monday–Friday | Regional Travel
Pay: $25–$36/hr depending on experience
Overtime: 5–15 hours/week (optional)
Employment: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire

Build a Long-Term Career in Advanced Manufacturing Technology

A leading global manufacturer of advanced industrial machinery is expanding its Field Service team and is looking for Field Service Engineers to support customers throughout Wisconsin and the surrounding Lakes Region.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a technical background who wants to take their career to the next level. You do not need years of Field Service experience to be considered. The company has a strong training program and is willing to invest in entry-level technicians with the right mechanical aptitude, technical education, and desire to learn.

You’ll receive hands-on training alongside experienced Field Service Engineers while learning to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair sophisticated CNC laser and automated manufacturing equipment.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Strong entry-level opportunity – extensive training provided for candidates with the right technical foundation
  • ~6-month training and development ramp from preventative maintenance and installations into advanced troubleshooting
  • Work with high-end CNC, laser, automation, and machine-tool technology
  • Work directly with customers and develop valuable technical and communication skills
  • Opportunities to grow into leadership, technical support, sales, account management, and other roles
  • Join a global manufacturing technology company with a strong reputation and long history in the industry
  • Work alongside experienced technicians who will help you develop your skills
  • Monday–Friday schedule with weekends typically optional
  • Home every weekend, even when traveling for longer installations

What You'll Do

Your schedule will be provided at the beginning of each week, and you'll travel directly to customer facilities throughout the region.

Depending on your experience and training level, your responsibilities may include:

  • Installing and commissioning new CNC machinery at customer facilities
  • Performing preventative maintenance on industrial equipment
  • Troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues
  • Diagnosing problems involving motors, sensors, controls, hydraulics, pneumatics, and other machine systems
  • Progressively taking on more complex repair and troubleshooting calls
  • Communicating directly with customers throughout service calls
  • Documenting equipment issues, repairs, and work performed
  • Working alongside senior Field Service Engineers while developing your technical expertise

Most weeks involve approximately 2–3 customer sites, with travel planned strategically whenever possible.

Training & Career Development

The company is particularly interested in developing early-career technical talent.

New hires will begin with approximately one week of orientation and 1–2 weeks of technical training at the company's Midwest facility before being paired with experienced Field Service Engineers in the field.

The first several months will focus heavily on:

  • Preventative maintenance
  • Machine installations
  • Learning the company's equipment
  • Understanding machine controls and systems
  • Developing troubleshooting skills

As your knowledge and confidence grow, you'll gradually transition into more advanced repair and troubleshooting work.

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Technical certificate, Associate's degree, military technical training, or relevant hands-on experience
  • Background in Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, Electrical, Automation, CNC/Machining, Mechanical Technology, or a related technical field
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and an interest in understanding how machinery works
  • Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to document technical work clearly
  • Willingness to travel Monday–Friday throughout the region
  • Comfortable working independently while representing the company directly with customers

Preferred

  • Field Service or Industrial Maintenance experience
  • CNC equipment experience
  • Experience operating, maintaining, repairing, or troubleshooting machine tools
  • Experience with lasers, press brakes, tube processing, automation, or other industrial machinery
  • Knowledge of 3-phase power, 480V systems, motors, sensors, controls, hydraulics, or pneumatics
  • Experience troubleshooting complex mechanical/electrical equipment

Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply. A strong technical foundation and mechanical aptitude can be more important than years of experience.

Travel

This is a Monday–Friday regional travel position, with technicians returning home for the weekend.

Travel may include:

  • Personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement for shorter trips
  • Rental vehicles for longer drives
  • Air travel when customer locations are beyond reasonable driving distance
  • Company travel/expense management tools
  • Per diem for meals while traveling

Most assignments are day trips or short overnight trips, although occasional installations may require being away during the week. Weekend travel is generally not required.

Benefits Upon Conversion

  • Medical
  • Dental
  • Vision
  • Short- and long-term disability
  • Life insurance
  • 401(k) with 100% company match up to 5%

The company has a strong history of developing employees internally, with Field Service professionals moving into positions such as:

  • Field Service Leadership
  • Technical/Hotline Support
  • Sales
  • Account Management
  • Other corporate and technical roles

If you're looking for a company that will teach you sophisticated equipment, put you in front of customers, and give you room to grow, this is a great opportunity to build a long-term career.
