Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join a real estate property and management organization in Raleigh, North Carolina. This role will play a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting the monthly close cycle, and delivering meaningful analysis to management. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills, sound judgment, and the ability to improve processes while partnering effectively across the business.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and post journal entries with complete support for accruals, prepaid activity, allocations, and account reclassifications.

• Lead assigned balance sheet reconciliations by resolving outstanding items promptly and ensuring accounts are accurately stated each reporting period.

• Perform bank and cash reconciliations, research variances, and work with internal partners to clear discrepancies in a timely manner.

• Support the month-end close by completing account reviews, roll-forwards, tie-outs, and other close deliverables within established deadlines.

• Evaluate financial results against historical performance, forecasts, and budgets, then summarize key drivers and unusual movements for management review.

• Review corporate payables for proper general ledger coding, adequate documentation, and adherence to internal policies and procedures.

• Administer prepaid expense accounting, including initial setup, recurring amortization, account monitoring, and related analysis.

• Prepare reporting packages, maintain audit-ready workpapers, and respond to internal or external audit requests with clear supporting documentation.

• Oversee the company purchasing card and employee expense programs, including transaction review, reconciliations, accruals, policy compliance, issue resolution, and coordination with banking contacts.

• Identify opportunities to automate workflows, strengthen controls, and improve efficiency across accounting operations.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
• At least 2 years of progressive accounting experience, including journal entries, general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and month-end close support.
• Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and balance sheet reconciliation practices.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookup formulas, validation tools, and financial analysis functions.
• Ability to investigate variances, interpret financial data, and provide practical recommendations based on findings.
• Experience preparing organized accounting documentation suitable for management review and audit support.
• Familiarity with corporate accounting systems; experience with Yardi or a comparable platform is preferred.
• CPA certification, or active progress toward certification, is considered a plus.
