Warehouse Operator – Receiving & Distribution
Pay: $20.00/hour
Location: North Chicago, IL
Schedule Options:
- 4-day schedule: 8:00 AM–6:30 PM
- 5-day schedule: 10:00 AM–6:30 PM
Experience: 2+ years of warehouse experience required
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
Interview: In-person interview on October 9, 2026, between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dependable Warehouse Operator to support receiving, order fulfillment, packing, and dock operations in a quality-controlled material environment in North Chicago, IL.
The Warehouse Operator will perform a variety of warehouse duties including counting, sorting, recording, receiving, picking, packing, and processing large and heavy-weight inventory. The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of strong work history, is safety-focused and detail-oriented, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
Forklift and powered industrial equipment experience is a plus. Important: New hires must successfully complete Abbott's forklift training before operating powered equipment. This training process may take 6+ months, so candidates should understand that prior forklift experience does not allow immediate equipment operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily warehouse operations in receiving, shipping, order fulfillment, and dock processing areas.
- Receive and process incoming materials and inventory on the receiving dock.
- Pick customer or production orders accurately according to established procedures.
- Pack orders and prepare materials for shipment or further processing.
- Count, sort, identify, and record large and heavy-weight stock accurately.
- Assist with dock processing and movement of materials throughout the warehouse.
- Maintain accurate inventory and material records.
- Follow established procedures for handling materials in a quality-controlled environment.
- Inspect and verify materials as required during receiving and order fulfillment activities.
- Safely handle and move heavy materials using appropriate equipment and procedures.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe warehouse and dock area.
- Follow all applicable safety procedures, PPE requirements, and material-handling guidelines.
- Demonstrate attention to detail when counting, recording, picking, and packing materials.
- Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Support additional warehouse activities as needed to meet operational goals.
Forklift & Powered Equipment
Forklift or powered industrial equipment experience is preferred but not required for immediate equipment operation.
Experience with the following equipment is a plus:
- Stand-up forklifts
- Cherry pickers
- Order pickers
- Pacer/Dock Stocker
- Turret trucks
- Equipment used for working at heights
Important Forklift Training Requirement: All new hires must complete the required Abbott forklift training before they are permitted to operate powered equipment. The training and qualification process may take 6 months or longer. Candidates should be aware that they may perform warehouse duties without operating powered equipment until they successfully complete the required training.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 2+ years of previous warehouse experience required.
- Strong and consistent work history.
- Distribution experience preferred.
- 3PL experience is a plus.
- Previous forklift or powered industrial equipment experience is a plus.
- Ability to work safely in a quality-controlled material environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Demonstrated reliability and initiative.
- Safety-focused approach to warehouse operations.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
Physical & Work Environment
- Ability to work in both hot and cold warehouse environments.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
- Warehouse environment may be loud.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods.
- Ability to consistently lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely handle large and heavy-weight inventory.
- Steel-toe shoes are required while working in the warehouse.
