Structured Cabling Technician - Data Center & Commercial

Becker Wright Consultants is adding Structured Cabling Technicians in Cedar Rapids, IA to support ongoing commercial and data center projects. Multiple roles are available for hands-on prosfrom true beginners to fully independent technicians.

Compensation: $26–$30 per hour, based on experience

A day in the role

You arrive on site, review the day’s plan with the crew, and gear up. In the morning you’re pulling CAT6 across a new build, dressing cable to spec and cleanly terminating jacks. After lunch, you move into an MDF/IDF, setting racks, organizing wire management, landing patch panels, and staging network hardware for the next phase. You wrap by testing fiber and copper, documenting results, and preparing the space for the next shift. Depending on your experience level, you’ll work under guidance, with limited oversight, or completely independently.

What you’ll take on

• Pulling cable and terminating jacks
• Installing, terminating, and testing structured cabling (CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6a, fiber optic, and coaxial)
• Building out MDF/IDF closets: racks, patch panels, wire management, and network hardware

Your scope and level of supervision will depend on your experience.

What you’ll bring

• Comfort working on ladders and with power tools
• Ability to lift, carry, and set a 50 lb box or ladder
• Your own low-voltage hand tools (snips, strippers, screwdrivers, wrenches)
• Willingness to work 2nd/3rd shift, overtime, and perform under pressure
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance
• Professional working proficiency in English
• Commercial construction experience preferred

Experience tiers

• Tech 1: No prior low-voltage experience neededshow up ready to learn and contribute.
• Tech 2: 1+ year in commercial low-voltage installs. You can terminate a jack, pull cable, and work a 90 with limited supervision; you can build out MDF/IDF closets with supervision.
• Tech 3: 2+ years in commercial low-voltage installs. You can terminate a jack, pull cable, work a 90, install and test all cabling types, and build out MDF/IDF closets with no supervision.
