Senior Kubernetes Engineer
Location: Richardson, TX Onsite
Employment Type: 5-Month W2 Contract
Pay Rate: $65 - $75/hour
Role Overview
BEPC is seeking an experienced Senior Kubernetes Engineer to support a mission-critical semiconductor manufacturing environment in Richardson, Texas. This role combines Kubernetes/container infrastructure, enterprise server administration, virtualization, and IT/OT infrastructure support.
Production Kubernetes experience is essential for this position. Candidates must have hands-on experience implementing, deploying, administering, or supporting Kubernetes in real-world production environments. Coursework, tutorials, certifications, or lab-only Kubernetes experience will not be sufficient.
You will help architect, deploy, and support IT and operational technology (OT) solutions while working closely with cross-functional teams to improve manufacturing infrastructure and operations. The environment includes Kubernetes, Docker, VMware, Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), hyper-converged infrastructure, and increasingly advanced AI-driven semiconductor manufacturing technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Deploy, administer, and support Kubernetes container-based application environments, helping expand the site's container infrastructure and capabilities.
- Provide operational support for mission-critical, on-premises server infrastructure supporting 24/7 manufacturing operations.
- Administer and support Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments across physical and virtual infrastructure.
- Support VMware technologies, including vSphere, vSAN, VCF/NSX, and related virtualization platforms.
- Work with hyper-converged infrastructure platforms such as Dell VxRail and newer technologies.
- Troubleshoot performance, availability, and infrastructure issues involving virtualized and physical server workloads.
- Facilitate implementation of new technology stacks and migration of physical workloads to virtualized environments where appropriate.
- Partner with semiconductor process and equipment vendors to improve infrastructure performance, reliability, and fault tolerance.
- Participate in technical troubleshooting calls and meetings with site and corporate teams to resolve application and infrastructure issues.
- Participate in daily tier meetings with factory systems and manufacturing operations teams.
- Support infrastructure associated with semiconductor manufacturing automation, equipment integration, fault detection and classification (FDC), and advanced process control (APC).
- Work with corporate IT and security teams to maintain infrastructure in accordance with corporate and semiconductor cybersecurity standards.
- Create and maintain clear documentation for infrastructure, system configurations, operational procedures, and automation scripts.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise server ecosystems in operational environments.
- 5+ years of experience administering Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 5–9.x).
- 1+ years of hands-on Docker and Kubernetes experience, including actual production deployment, administration, orchestration, or operational support.
- 3+ years of experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware, vSphere, vSAN, VCF, and/or NSX.
- 3+ years of experience with ServiceNow or a comparable formal IT service management platform or methodology.
- Experience with infrastructure automation or Infrastructure as Code using technologies such as Tanium, Chef, JSON, PowerShell, Ruby, or other scripting languages.
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, subnetting, IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, NAT, routing, and switching.
- Experience with backup, disaster recovery, resiliency, and technology continuity strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to document infrastructure, automation scripts, and system configurations for maintainability and operational continuity.
- Ability to support business-critical infrastructure in a high-availability manufacturing environment.
- Strong written, verbal, troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience with Windows patching technologies such as Tanium, Windows security standards, and operating system hardening.
- Experience across the software development lifecycle, including requirements, design, coding, testing, and production support.
- Experience supporting Cisco Nexus and Catalyst network infrastructure.
- Experience with modern backup and data recovery platforms such as Rubrik.
- Experience supporting IT/OT environments, including network segmentation, equipment integration, manufacturing automation, and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
- Understanding of SCADA environments, manufacturing-focused Windows PCs and servers, and industrial network architectures.
- Experience supporting infrastructure used for semiconductor manufacturing or other highly automated manufacturing operations.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, drive improvements, and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at multiple organizational levels.
