Core Responsibilities
- Operator Support & Spotting: Guide equipment operators using hand signals or radio communication to ensure safe maneuvering around utilities, trenches, and ground workers.
- Site Preparation & Maintenance: Clear debris, shovel dirt, grade surfaces, and set up erosion control materials.
- Equipment Upkeep: Perform daily pre-shift inspections, grease moving parts, check fluid levels, and clean tracks or tires on machinery.
- Rigging & Material Handling: Attach chains, cables, or slings to secure materials (like pipes or structural steel) for lifting by cranes or excavators.
- Trenching & Utility Work: Assist in digging trenches, laying underground pipes or cables, and backfilling soil.
- Manual Tool Operation: Safely operate hand and power tools, including jackhammers, compactors, chainsaws, and concrete saws.
- Supervised Equipment Operation: Run lighter machinery (like skid steers, mini-excavators, or forklifts) or operate heavy machinery under the direct tutelage of a senior operator.

Education & Certifications
• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid Driver’s License (Commercial Driver's License/CDL is a major plus).
• OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction Safety Card.
Technical Skills
• Basic knowledge of construction methods and site safety.
• Ability to read and interpret hand signals.
• Familiarity with basic preventive maintenance for diesel machinery.
Physical Demands
• Ability to lift up to 50–70 lbs regularly.
• Capability to stand, kneel, bend, and walk on uneven terrain for long shifts.

- Outdoor Elements: Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and mud.
- Safety Hazards: The job site features high-decibel noise, heavy dust, moving machinery, and open trenches, requiring strict adherence to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines (hard hat, steel-toed boots, high-visibility vest).
- Schedule: Often requires early morning starts, overtime, and occasional weekend work depending on project deadlines.
