Purpose: The classroom 1:1 aide is under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher they are assigned based on classroom, program, or student needs. Classroom 1:1 aides are responsible for providing instructional, safety, and daily living supports for students under the direction of the supervisor.

Reports To: Supervisor of Instruction/Board Certified Behavior Analyst

Essential Job Functions

Assist in the preparation and delivery of the educational program under the supervision and

direction of the assigned certified staff member

Assist in implementing classroom behavior management systems, including Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), as established by the program and assigned certified staff

Monitor students’ daily schedules and behavior plans to support a safe, positive, and productive learning environment

Recognize and respond appropriately to precursor behaviors and other signs of escalation, such as increased voice volume, changes in facial expression, vocal protests, or aggression

Utilize de-escalation strategies to support students in remaining in the classroom, completing assignments, and successfully participating in the educational program

Assist with crisis prevention and intervention in accordance with Honor Ridge Academy policies and under the direction of designated certified staff

Attend required crisis prevention and intervention training provided by Honor Ridge Academy

Assist with classroom management and student supervision as directed by the classroom teacher

Demonstrate flexibility when rotating between students or responsibilities as assigned by the classroom teacher

Complete required data collection and facilitate accommodations as directed by the classroom teacher, behavior staff, or supervisor

Encourage students to develop self-advocacy skills and increase independence

Be available to assist the classroom teacher with tasks related to instructional programming, classroom organization, and student supervision

Maintain and care for classroom supplies and material

Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and in-service sessions as required

Establish and maintain effective, professional relationships with students and staff

Demonstrate collaboration, openness to professional growth, and a willingness to contribute to a collective approach to the educational program

General Responsibilities

Engage positively with students and serve as a positive role model

Always remain with assigned students unless otherwise directed. This includes accompanying students to behavioral or related services unless behavior staff determines that assistance is not necessary

Maintain confidentiality regarding students and their educational and behavioral needs

Support and implement the direction of assigned certified staff, including required paperwork, classroom organization, and student supervision

Meet expectations for daily data collection and submit completed documentation to the designated supervisor by the end of each week
