For 40 years, Sharing Connections has helped individuals and families in need turn houses into homes by providing furniture and essential household items. From our nearly 15,000-square-foot warehouse in Downers Grove, we work with a network of social service agencies, community partners, donors, and volunteers to serve thousands of individuals throughout the Chicagoland area each year.
Our warehouse is at the heart of our mission, and we are looking for a dependable, organized, and hands-on Warehouse Manager to keep it running safely, efficiently, and smoothly.
Position Overview
The Warehouse Manager is responsible for the overall organization, safety, efficiency, and daily operation of Sharing Connections’ warehouse. This position oversees the flow of donated furniture and household goods from donor pickup through inventory, storage, and ultimately into the homes of the individuals and families we serve.
The ideal candidate is a strong planner who takes pride in organization, anticipates needs, communicates effectively, and is comfortable leading volunteers and working alongside them when needed.
The Warehouse Manager reports directly to the CEO and works closely with staff, volunteers, community service workers, and the truck crew.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and efficient warehouse.
- Develop and maintain effective systems for furniture, household goods, supplies, equipment, and inventory.
- Plan ahead for incoming and outgoing inventory to maintain adequate space and smooth daily operations.
- Manage furniture donation pickups, truck schedules, routes, and communication with donors and volunteers.
- Oversee the safe loading, unloading, sorting, storage, and movement of donated furniture.
- Provide daily direction and supervision to warehouse and truck volunteers.
- Ensure adequate warehouse and truck coverage and communicate daily priorities clearly.
- Regularly evaluate warehouse layout, storage practices, and workflow and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain warehouse safety and security procedures, including opening and closing responsibilities.
- Oversee organizational property, supplies, equipment, and donated goods.
- Coordinate routine maintenance and repairs for the Sharing Connections truck and warehouse equipment.
- Support special pickups, deliveries, community initiatives, and Sharing Connections’ On the Road program.
- Work collaboratively with staff to ensure furniture and household goods are readily available for client appointments.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in warehouse operations, logistics, facilities, moving, or a related field preferred.
- Supervisory, team leadership, or volunteer management experience preferred.
- Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to anticipate operational needs and establish effective routines and systems.
- Dependable, responsible, and able to work independently.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to safely lift and move furniture and other heavy items.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate Sharing Connections vehicles.
- Ability to obtain any additional license or certification required for the position. Sharing Connections will cover the cost of obtaining a Class C Non-CDL license for an otherwise qualified candidate.
- Basic computer, email, and scheduling skills.
- Ability to work respectfully and effectively with volunteers, donors, clients, staff, and individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Schedule
This is a full-time position. The regular schedule includes two Saturday mornings per month from 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. Occasional additional Saturday and evening hours for special events and/or fundraisers may also be required. Some schedule flexibility may be necessary for special pickups, deliveries, and operational needs.
Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this position is 45,000–55,000 annually. Starting salary will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skills.
Sharing Connections offers a SIMPLE IRA retirement plan with an employer match of up to 3%. Health insurance is not currently offered.
