Overview Join a growing biotechnology organization in the U.S. that focuses on next-generation RNA medicine manufacturing. The Microfluidics/Consumable Engineer will be responsible for the engineering of the consumables for the manufacturing platform.

Responsibilities

  • Own the engineering of the consumables for the manufacturing platform.
  • Manage the flow path carrying every unit operation of the end-to-end process including DNA template preparation/amplification,purification/filtration, and encapsulation.
  • Design channel geometry and hydrodynamics, mixing elements, valve and actuator placement, in-line sensing locations, and fluid-path interfaces to various subsystems.
  • Select materials and joining methods compatible with sterilization under ISO 11137.
  • Conduct bench de-risking of cartridge unit operations, fabricate the initial cartridge lot, and verify cartridges against set acceptance criteria.

Requirements

  • MS or PhD in mechanical, chemical, or biomedical engineering, or a related discipline with a microfluidics specialization.
  • At least six years of experience designing and building microfluidic or milli-fluidic devices that have gone into real use.
  • Strong understanding of low-Reynolds-number flow, mixing, pressure drop, residence time, and microfluidic nanoparticle formation, including how mixing parameters impact particle size, polydispersity, and encapsulation efficiency.
  • Hands-on fabrication experience across at least two of the following: injection molding, hot embossing, laser micromachining, CNC micro-milling, film lamination, laser or ultrasonic welding, and pressure-sensitive adhesive bonding.
  • Experience in fluidic network design and/or CFD applied to real design decisions.
