Our long standing, building product manufacturing client in the Fort Wayne, IN area is seeking a Dispatch Manager to oversee transportation and yard operations by coordinating drivers, dispatch schedules, equipment movement, and yard staff to ensure efficient, safe, and timely workflow. Key functions include managing daily assignments, monitoring operations, organizing yard activity, resolving operational issues, maintaining communication between teams, ensuring regulatory compliance, and optimizing resources to support productivity and customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees and evaluates all activities of yard employees and drivers, ensuring safe and efficient loading and unloading of all material both inbound and outbound.
  • Verify hours worked by yard and drivers daily for company time and attendance and payroll systems.
  • Inspect the yard multiple times per day to identify problem areas that need addressed.
  • Ensure the yard maintains a state of cleanliness and organization. EX; the barn, pipe yard, exterior of the office, resale stock room in the office, order rows, and yard as a whole.
  • Teach and implement safe lifting and loading techniques and regularly evaluates employees’ compliance.
  • Hold yard staff and drivers accountable for their responsibilities and actions. Coach and mentor to develop a strong cohesive team.
  • Collaborate with our rolling stock maintenance to coordinate services and repairs.
  • Conducts daily inspections, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and internal laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Have loads prepared for yard and drivers before they arrive at company facility. Eliminate time yard and drivers wait/down time at the office. Double check all loads personally for accuracy prior to shipment.
  • Monitor freight movements in real time using company software applications, knowing where drivers are and planning on when they will be back.
  • Consult the production planning team to plan deliveries for the next day.
  • Constant communication with customers to inform them on when their delivery will be there.
  • Assesses efficiency and performance of dispatch and distribution activities; identifies and recommends improvements to General Manager.
  • Ensures product handling and delivery practices meet customer expectations, and daily, weekly, monthly, and annual business objectives.
  • Secure third party trucks when needed for busy times or large deliveries.
  • Perform regular vehicle cleanliness inspections, registrations, permits and update when needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • 3-5 years’ experience as a dispatch manager or supervisor
  • Currently we have 6 CDL-A drivers this position will supervise
  • Will also supervise 6 people in the yard, one being a lead/svr
  • Handles 12 -16 loads per day
  • Responsible for keeping trucks DOT compliant, along with the drivers
  • Knowledge of safety

  • Galvanizing & tenacity to resolve problems and communication
  • Coordinates with sister company on shared dispatches as needed. Sister company has 2 CDL-A drivers and coordinates with our client's Dispatch Mgr.

  • Prolonged periods standing and up to four hours per shift sitting and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 75 pounds.
