An established, industry-leading engineering consulting firm is seeking a dynamic Senior MEP Engineer & Practice Builder to launch, shape, and scale a dedicated Healthcare and Mission-Critical Engineering Practice in Phoenix, Arizona.

This is a premier "seller-doer" leadership role designed for an entrepreneurial PE-level engineer who excels at building client relationships, capturing market share, and leading high-stakes technical projects. Key ResponsibilitiesPractice Building & Business Development
  • Lead the strategic growth and market expansion of an MEP practice focused on healthcare systems, data centers, and mission-critical infrastructure.

  • Act as a lead "seller-doer," establishing direct relationships with hospital networks, data center operators, developers, architects, general contractors, and public agencies across Arizona.

  • Own the pursuit pipeline: drive proposals, scopes of work, fee negotiations, competitive interviews, and project capture strategies.

  • Serve as a strategic and technical advisor to executive-level client stakeholders.

Technical & Project Leadership
  • Provide senior technical oversight for high-reliability mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering projects.

  • Remain hands-on in conceptual design, high-level calculations, system redundancy modeling, technical reviews, and QA/QC procedures.

  • Manage complex projects across their full lifecycleconceptual planning, detailed design, construction administration, commissioning, and final handover.

  • Ensure all designs prioritize reliability, N+1/2N redundancy, energy efficiency, maintainability, constructability, and strict code compliance.

Team Growth & Operational Excellence
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain top-tier engineers, designers, and project managers to build a high-performing local team.

  • Set initial practice structure, project workflows, and technical delivery standards as revenue scales.

  • Balance practice profitability, staff utilization, business development targets, and delivery schedules.

  • Foster a collaborative culture grounded in technical rigor, accountability, client service, and professional development.

Key Target Project Sectors
  • Healthcare: Acute-care hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, complex clinical environments, medical gas systems, central utility plants, and phased renovations within active operational facilities.

  • Mission-Critical: Tier III/IV data centers, high-density computing facilities, critical emergency power systems, standby generators, UPS systems, central cooling plants, and redundant electrical distribution.

Qualifications & Candidate Profile
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural, or related Engineering discipline.

  • Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license required. Active Arizona PE registration (or immediate reciprocity eligibility) is highly preferred.

  • Experience: 10–15+ years of progressive MEP design and project management experience, with a heavy emphasis on healthcare, hospital, or data center environments.

  • Track Record: Proven "seller-doer" track record with demonstrated success developing client networks, winning proposals, and expanding existing accounts.

  • Market Presence: Established relationships within the Phoenix/Arizona architecture, engineering, construction, or healthcare/tech owner communities strongly preferred (relocation considered for exceptional candidates with proven market-entry capability).

  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead complex engineering projects, mentor junior talent, and interface confidently with executive decision-makers.
