Job Title: Process Engineer

Job Description

The Process Engineer develops, optimizes, and validates robust plastic injection molding processes for new and existing products in a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role leads process development activities, drives continuous improvement, and provides technical support to production teams to enhance productivity, quality, and overall equipment effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, validate, and document robust injection molding processes for new and existing products.
  • Lead process development activities, including mold trials, process studies, capability analysis, and production validations.
  • Analyze molding processes and implement improvements to increase productivity, quality, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Troubleshoot molding defects such as flash, short shots, sink marks, burn marks, splay, warpage, dimensional variation, and cosmetic defects.
  • Apply scientific molding principles and data-driven methodologies to establish, monitor, and maintain process controls.
  • Conduct root cause investigations for process-related issues and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support new product launches, process qualifications, mold validations, and production ramp-ups.
  • Develop and maintain standard process sheets, work instructions, validation documentation, and engineering records.
  • Collaborate closely with Quality teams to define process capability requirements and improve product consistency.
  • Identify and execute opportunities to reduce cycle times, scrap, downtime, material consumption, and overall manufacturing costs.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement process improvements involving automation, robotics, vision systems, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Partner with Tooling and Maintenance teams to enhance mold performance, reliability, and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects using structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Support production teams by providing technical guidance and training on molding processes and best practices.
  • Participate in customer audits, quality investigations, and corrective action activities as required.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and company policies and procedures in all process engineering activities.

Essential Skills

  • 3 to 7 years of experience in plastic injection molding process engineering or advanced process development.
  • Strong knowledge of injection molding equipment, molds, tooling, and resin processing.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and validating molding processes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of scientific molding principles and process optimization techniques.
  • Experience with root cause analysis, statistical methods, and process capability analysis.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing software systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills applied to complex manufacturing processes.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and support production personnel.
  • Solid project management abilities to lead process development and continuous improvement initiatives.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Degree preferred but not required for candidates with 10+ years of experience working in a plastic injection molding environment.
  • Experience in manufacturing engineering or process engineering in a high-volume production setting.
  • Experience working with automation, robotics, vision systems, and auxiliary equipment in molding operations.
  • Familiarity with overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) metrics and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong attention to detail in documentation, validation records, and standard work instructions.

Work Environment

This role operates in a manufacturing environment focused on plastic injection molding, working closely with production, quality, tooling, and maintenance teams. You will regularly interact with injection molding presses, molds, tooling, resin handling systems, automation, robotics, vision systems, and auxiliary equipment, while using Microsoft Office and manufacturing software to analyze data and document processes. The position involves hands-on work on the production floor as well as time in an office setting for engineering analysis, documentation, and collaboration. Safety and environmental compliance are integral to daily activities, and the work culture emphasizes continuous improvement, teamwork, and data-driven decision-making.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Greeneville, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $95000.00 - $110000.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
