Surgical Counselor

The Surgical Counselor supports patients throughout the surgical journey, from consultation and scheduling through preoperative preparation and end-to-end coordination. This role supports elective outpatient, inpatient, cosmetic, and multispecialty procedures; conducts in-person and telephone consultations; and collaborates with the surgical services manager and surgeons or physicians to ensure an organized, compassionate patient experience.

Responsibilities

• Counsel patients regarding surgical procedures, expectations, and next steps.
• Schedule elective outpatient surgeries, cosmetic, and multispecialty procedures.
• Coordinate preoperative preparation and required arrangements.
• Process surgical consents and related documentation.
• Manage referrals and support continuity of patient care.
• Coordinate patients throughout the surgical process from consultation through preoperative preparation.
• Conduct in-person and telephone consultations.

Preferred Qualifications

• entry level and up to 2+ years of experience in surgical counseling.
• Knowledge of patient education and medical terminology, HIPPA.
• Experience with electronic health records and surgical scheduling.
• Knowledge of healthcare documentation practices.
• Empathy and strong communication skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail.
