What Does a Day Support DSP Do?

Your job is to help the individuals we support have safe, productive, engaging, and meaningful days.

No two days are exactly the same. You may help someone learn a new skill, participate in a community outing, work toward a personal goal, complete an activity, or simply encourage them to do something more independently than they did yesterday.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Teaching and reinforcing daily living, social, communication, and independent living skills.
  • Encouraging individuals to make choices and become more independent.
  • Participating in community outings, recreational activities, and special events.
  • Creating fun, meaningful, and engaging activities.
  • Providing assistance based on each individual's needs and abilities.
  • Following Individual Support Plans (ISPs), behavioral plans, and established support strategies.
  • Monitoring individuals' health, safety, and overall well-being.
  • Recognizing and reporting behavioral, medical, or safety concerns.
  • Completing accurate daily documentation and progress notes.
  • Building positive, professional relationships with the individuals you support.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming environment.
  • Participating in staff meetings, required training, and professional development.
  • Working collaboratively with supervisors, coworkers, families, and other members of the support team.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to successfully complete required criminal background checks.
  • Central Registry clearance.
  • Current physical.
  • Negative TB/PPD screening.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain required certification after hire.
  • Medication Administration certification or ability to complete required training.
  • Behavior Management certification or ability to complete required training.

Previous DSP experience is welcomed but not required for the right candidate. Training is available.
