Assistant Project Manager - Steel Erection

Our client is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the planning and execution of commercial structural steel erection projects in western Wisconsin. Working alongside experienced Project Managers and field operations personnel, this position will support project documentation, procurement, material coordination, field productivity tracking, subcontract administration, and communication with customers, vendors, and project partners. The role is full-time and on-site and may support multiple active projects throughout the region.

The ideal candidate has an early-career background in commercial construction and wants to build deeper project management experience within structural steel or specialty contracting. Candidates should be comfortable interpreting construction documents, coordinating detailed project information, and working closely with both office and field teams. Direct structural steel experience is valuable but is not required, making this position appropriate for candidates coming from general contracting or other relevant specialty-construction environments.

Our client is an established specialty construction contractor with a long history of delivering structural steel projects across commercial, industrial, manufacturing, distribution, data-center, institutional, and other technically demanding construction markets. The organization combines specialized steel-erection expertise with a national project portfolio and continues to expand its operating capabilities and geographic reach.

This position offers an early-career construction professional the opportunity to develop practical project-management experience while working closely with experienced project and field leadership. The company's work provides exposure to large and technically complex projects, coordination between office and field operations, and the financial, logistical, and documentation disciplines required to progress into greater project ownership over time.

• Support Project Managers with the planning, coordination, and execution of structural steel erection and related construction projects.
• Review drawings, specifications, contracts, and related documentation to understand project scope, requirements, and budget expectations.
• Coordinate with field operations to identify equipment, material, and subcontracting needs and prepare supporting purchase orders and subcontract documentation.
• Manage material delivery coordination and maintain accurate records supporting multiple active jobsites.
• Prepare and maintain project documentation including RFIs, submittals, change orders, progress reports, and other required project records.
• Monitor field productivity and maintain accurate daily project information used by project and operations leadership.
• Support workforce administration activities associated with field operations, including onboarding coordination, timesheet management, and daily reporting.
• Communicate professionally with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal project teams to support effective project execution.

• Four-year degree from an accredited institution.
• At least 1 year of commercial construction experience; relevant college internship experience may qualify.
• Demonstrated ability to accurately read and interpret construction drawings and related project documentation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to work effectively with construction technology platforms.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate project information across multiple concurrent assignments.
• Strong communication and coordination skills for working with project managers, field teams, clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
• Ability to work full-time on-site in western Wisconsin.

• Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Experience with structural steel fabrication, steel erection, miscellaneous metals, or another specialty-construction environment.
• Prior Assistant Project Manager, Project Engineer, Field Engineer, or similar construction project-coordination experience.
• Experience with Bluebeam or comparable construction-document management software.
