First Call Security Innovations LLC is seeking an experienced Master Access Control Technician to join our growing field team.
This is a senior-level, hands-on position for an experienced commercial security technician who can independently install, program, troubleshoot, test, and commission access control systems.
The ideal candidate is someone who can walk onto a job, understand the system, identify problems, take ownership of the work, and get the system operating correctly with minimal supervision.
Pay: $30–$38 per hour, based on experience and technical qualifications.
What You’ll DoInstall, program, troubleshoot, test, and commission commercial access control systems.
Install and configure:
Access control panels and controllers
Card and biometric readers
Electric strikes
Magnetic locks
Electrified panic and exit hardware
Door position switches
Request-to-exit devices
Keypads
Intercoms
Gates and turnstiles
Power supplies and related security equipment
Program and configure controllers, readers, doors, schedules, access levels, credentials, and system settings.
Troubleshoot complex hardware, wiring, power, network, communication, and software issues.
Diagnose problems independently and identify the root cause rather than simply replacing equipment.
Perform system startup, testing, commissioning, and final verification.
Read and interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, wiring diagrams, device schedules, floor plans, and project specifications.
Verify device locations, cable routing, door hardware requirements, and system functionality against project documentation.
Perform service calls, system upgrades, modifications, expansions, and troubleshooting on existing systems.
Coordinate with Project Managers, customers, electricians, general contractors, door hardware contractors, and other trades.
Identify material requirements, installation issues, scope concerns, and potential project delays and communicate them promptly.
Assist with integration between access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, intercom, and other electronic security systems.
Train customers and end users on system operation when required.
Complete service reports, testing documentation, as-built information, photographs, and project closeout documentation.
Lead or provide technical direction to Install Technicians and less-experienced technicians when assigned.
Maintain professional job sites, tools, vehicles, and equipment.
Follow company safety requirements and applicable job-site safety procedures.
Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience in commercial electronic security or access control.
Must have substantial experience programming, troubleshooting, and commissioning commercial access control systems.
Ability to independently diagnose and resolve access control system issues.
Strong knowledge of access control hardware, electronic locking systems, door hardware, wiring, power requirements, and system communications.
Strong understanding of:
Electric strikes
Magnetic locks
Electrified panic/exit hardware
Door position switches
Request-to-exit devices
Access control panels/controllers
Readers and credentials
Power supplies
Working knowledge of IP networking, Ethernet, PoE, network switches, IP addressing, and basic network troubleshooting as it relates to security systems.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, wiring diagrams, floor plans, and project specifications.
Must have a reliable work truck capable of transporting tools, equipment, and materials to job sites.
Must own and maintain professional hand and power tools necessary to perform access control installation and service work.
Ability to use diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, cable testers, tone generators, and network testers.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to lead a small crew or take responsibility for assigned work.
Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
Professional communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with customers, Project Managers, and other trades.
Ability to work on ladders, above ceilings, and in active commercial construction environments.
Ability to travel to assigned job sites as needed.
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

The Master Access Control Technician is expected to be capable of taking ownership of assigned work and providing technical direction when needed.
The successful candidate should be able to:
Work independently without constant supervision.
Lead or assist other technicians on larger installations.
Identify problems and determine the appropriate solution.
Review technician work and provide technical guidance when necessary.
Communicate project issues and technical concerns to the Project Manager.
Maintain professional relationships with customers and other trades.
Mentor less-experienced technicians and help develop their technical skills.
Complete assigned work accurately, safely, and professionally.
The right candidate is more than an installer.
We are looking for a true Master-level technician who understands access control from the door hardware and wiring all the way through the controller, network, programming, and final system operation.
You should be comfortable walking onto a commercial job site, assessing what needs to be done, solving problems, communicating with the customer and other trades, and completing the work without needing constant direction.
You should take pride in your workmanship, your technical knowledge, and your ability to get the job done correctly.
This is a hands-on field position. Candidates must have a minimum of 8 years of commercial access control experience, their own reliable work truck, and their own professional tools.
