Electrical Estimator / Project Manager

Robbins Electric

Kansas City, KS • $80,000 to $120,000 / yr • 10/9/2026

Job Description

Job Description

Robbins Electric is growing, and we're looking for an experienced Electrical Estimator / Project Manager who can take ownership of projects from estimating through completion.

This is not an estimating-only position.

We're looking for someone who understands how electrical work is actually installed, can build accurate estimates, communicate confidently with customers and general contractors, and manage the financial and coordination side of a project after it is awarded.

Our ownership team currently handles much of this responsibility. The right person will step into a meaningful leadership position with the opportunity to take ownership of projects, earn substantial performance-based compensation, and help us continue building our commercial electrical division.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as the primary project contact for customers and general contractors.
  • Conduct site walks and confirm project scope, expectations, schedules, and installation requirements.
  • Review plans and specifications and complete electrical takeoffs.
  • Obtain supplier, subcontractor, and equipment pricing.
  • Prepare estimates, labor-hour budgets, proposals, exclusions, clarifications, and RFIs.
  • Follow up on proposals and assist in securing awarded work.
  • Coordinate submittals, project-specific purchasing, rentals, and material deliveries.
  • Prepare complete project handoffs for our Production Manager and field team.
  • Communicate project milestones and anticipated manpower requirements.
  • Monitor project progress, job costs, labor hours, material costs, and projected costs to complete.
  • Maintain project financial forecasts and monitor expected profitability.
  • Coordinate with customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and other trades.
  • Identify, price, document, and obtain approval for change orders.
  • Maintain timely customer and GC communication throughout the project.
  • Coordinate with our office team on progress billing and required documentation.
  • Coordinate inspections, punch-list completion, closeout documentation, and final billing.
  • Review estimated versus actual project performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Escalate significant financial, contractual, or scheduling concerns to ownership.

How Our Team Is Structured

Our Estimator / Project Manager owns the project.

Our Production Manager owns field manpower and daily execution.

You'll work closely together to ensure the field team receives a clear plan, accurate labor expectations, required materials, and the information needed to execute efficiently.

You will not be expected to spend your days assigning individual electricians or performing routine field installation. Your responsibility is to keep projects organized, profitable, documented, and moving forward.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong electrical construction knowledge.
  • Electrical estimating experience.
  • Ability to read plans, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Understanding of electrical labor requirements and installation methods.
  • Experience managing electrical projects or comparable construction projects.
  • Ability to build and manage project budgets.
  • Strong understanding of change-order management.
  • Excellent communication with customers, general contractors, vendors, and field personnel.
  • Ability to independently prioritize multiple active projects.
  • Strong organization and follow-through.
  • Commercial electrical experience is strongly preferred.

We are especially interested in candidates who have personally worked in the electrical trade and understand how the work they estimate will actually be installed.

Compensation

Base Salary: 80,000 - 120,000, depending on experience and demonstrated ability.

In addition to base salary, this position includes a meaningful performance-based incentive program tied to:

  • Project profitability
  • Estimating accuracy
  • Change-order management
  • Project documentation and closeout
  • Customer communication
  • Successful project coordination

High performers have the opportunity to earn compensation significantly above base salary as the volume and profitability of their managed projects grow.

Benefits

Robbins Electric offers a competitive employee benefits package, including:

  • Paid time off
  • Paid holidays
  • Company-supported health benefits
  • Retirement plan with company match
  • Company vehicle or applicable vehicle arrangement
  • Company phone / technology as required
  • Paid week between Christmas and New Year's
  • Supportive, growing small-company environment
  • Direct access to company ownership
  • Opportunity for increased responsibility as the company grows
