Technology Transactions, Cybersecurity & Privacy Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking a Technology Transactions, Cybersecurity & Privacy Associate Attorney to join a nationally recognized technology and privacy practice. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with strong privacy and cybersecurity experience to advise sophisticated clients on regulatory compliance, data protection, cybersecurity incidents, and emerging technology issues.

Locations: Chicago, IL; Los Angeles, CA; Milwaukee, WI; San Diego, CA

Qualifications:

  • 4-6 years of privacy and cybersecurity experience in a law firm environment.

  • Experience advising clients on privacy and cybersecurity compliance, counseling, and incident response, including breach notification requirements.

  • Familiarity with U.S. state and federal privacy laws and international privacy and regulatory requirements, including CCPA, COPPA, GDPR, GLBA, HIPAA, and TCPA.

  • Experience with several of the following:

    • Data breach investigations and notifications.

    • Privacy assessments.

    • Data mapping and records of processing activities.

    • Development of security and privacy policies and procedures.

  • CIPP or other relevant industry certification is a plus.

  • Experience or demonstrated interest in technology, licensing, cybersecurity, or professional services delivery and management is valued.

  • Strong writing, analytical, and oral communication skills.

  • Sound judgment and excellent attention to detail.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and exceptional work ethic.

  • JD from an ABA-accredited law school with strong academic credentials.

  • Active Bar membership in good standing in the jurisdiction(s) where admitted.

  • Ability to obtain admission in the state where the hiring office is located.

Responsibilities:

  • Advise clients regarding privacy and cybersecurity compliance obligations.

  • Counsel clients on federal, state, and international privacy and regulatory requirements.

  • Assist clients with cybersecurity incident response and data breach investigations.

  • Advise on breach notification requirements and related regulatory obligations.

  • Conduct privacy assessments and data mapping exercises.

  • Assist with records of processing activities and related privacy compliance programs.

  • Develop and review privacy and information security policies and procedures.

  • Research emerging privacy, cybersecurity, and technology laws and regulations.

  • Work directly with partners and clients to provide practical, business-focused legal advice.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to address complex technology, privacy, and cybersecurity issues.

Compensation: $290,000-$370,000 annually, depending on education, experience, internal equity, and other job-related factors.
