Proesis Biologics is seeking a well-rounded and strategic leader to join our team as the Financial Controller. Reporting directly to the VP of Growth and Strategy, this position leads the company's financial practices and policies and serves as a key strategic partner in guiding organizational decisions. The Financial Controller will possess cross-functional accounting and finance experience, a proven track record in hands-on financial operations, and the ability to build scalable processes while comfortably wearing many hats in a fast-growing, lean team environment.

Role and Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements
  • Maintain and enforce internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures in accordance with GAAP
  • Manage the process for developing and maintaining standard costs for materials, labor, and overhead, including evaluating methodologies and ensuring appropriate application to inventory and costs of goods sold
  • Review and update standard costs annually to ensure ongoing accuracy
  • Establish and maintain effective processes for physical inventory counts and reconciling inventory valuation against the general ledger
  • Coordinate directly with external accountants and auditors for tax filings, financial reviews, and audits
  • Oversee fixed asset tracking, depreciation schedules, and prepaid or accrual entries
  • Ensure strict compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, including sales tax filings and business licenses
  • Oversee donor card vendor relationships, administrative policies, and inventories, performing regular audits and reconciliations of donor payments

Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual budgets and forecasts in close collaboration with corporate leadership and business leaders
  • Prepare and accurately maintain cash flow projections while leading cash planning discussions
  • Analyze financial performance against budget, identifying key trends, variances, and operational areas for improvement
  • Consolidate variance analyses and financial performance insights into a monthly report delivered to the Leadership Team
  • Build dynamic financial models and reports to guide strategic organizational decision-making
  • Deliver actionable financial insights and executive recommendations to the Leadership Team
  • Support pricing strategies, cost analysis, and profitability assessments across core business activities

Payroll & Compliance

  • Manage full-cycle payroll operations to ensure complete accuracy and timeliness.
  • Act as the primary backup for processing company payroll.
  • Maintain compliance with payroll tax laws, wage and hour regulations, and benefits administration protocols.
  • Prepare and file required payroll tax returns, including Forms 941, W-2, and 1099.
Qualifications and Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Active CPA designation preferred, but not required
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
  • Prior experience operating within regulated industry environments is a plus
  • Strong technical mastery of GAAP, payroll regulations, and formal financial reporting
  • Proficiency in accounting software, with direct NetSuite experience preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational capabilities, and written/verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to execute independently and balance multiple responsibilities in a lean, fast-paced environment
