Location: Plano, Texas

Position Type: Contract

Pay: $60 - $65 per hour

Travel: At least 50% to assigned regional sites

Position Overview

Reliance One, Inc. is hiring an experienced Construction Engineer for one of our established clients.

This position will coordinate feasibility studies, design development, construction oversight, project controls, and stakeholder communication across a portfolio of concurrent projects. The Construction Engineer will work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, operations teams, and internal partners to ensure projects meet owner requirements for scope, schedule, cost, quality, and safety.

The ideal candidate has extensive commercial construction experience, strong construction-safety knowledge, and the ability to manage up to 30 projects and feasibility studies at various stages.

Key Responsibilities

Feasibility and Design Coordination

  • Coordinate feasibility studies by gathering owner and stakeholder requirements.
  • Evaluate project options with architecture and engineering teams.
  • Document project scope, constraints, risks, assumptions, and recommendations.
  • Support design development and formal design-review activities.
  • Coordinate architects, engineers, contractors, and internal partners to resolve questions.
  • Ensure designs align with owner requirements and operational needs.
  • Review drawings, scopes, schedules, specifications, and construction documentation.

Construction Oversight

  • Oversee assigned construction projects through regular site visits.
  • Monitor construction progress, workmanship, quality, and alignment with approved plans.
  • Coordinate contractors and project partners to resolve field concerns.
  • Identify, document, and escalate unresolved project issues.
  • Track corrective actions and follow through to completion.
  • Support project closeout and transition activities as assigned.

Project Controls

  • Maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, milestones, risks, changes, and action logs.
  • Monitor project cost and schedule performance.
  • Identify variances and recommend corrective actions.
  • Track decisions, commitments, and outstanding deliverables.
  • Maintain accurate and organized project records.
  • Use Microsoft Project, Procore, and Bluebeam to manage schedules, documentation, and design reviews.

Stakeholder Management and Reporting

  • Engage stakeholders throughout the complete project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Facilities, Safety, IT, Security, and design and construction partners.
  • Prepare weekly project-status updates.
  • Develop weekly and monthly executive reports summarizing:
  • Overall project progress
  • Cost and schedule performance
  • Current and emerging risks
  • Decisions requiring leadership input
  • Recommended actions
  • Communicate clearly with both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Proactively move issues, decisions, and action items toward resolution.

Construction Safety

  • Review construction safety plans, procedures, and supporting documentation.
  • Monitor site activities for compliance with safety expectations.
  • Recognize construction hazards and coordinate timely corrective action.
  • Promptly escalate unsafe conditions and unresolved safety concerns.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture among contractors and project partners.

Portfolio Management

  • Prioritize and coordinate up to 30 concurrent projects and feasibility studies.
  • Manage projects at different stages of feasibility, design, construction, and closeout.
  • Coordinate design reviews, schedules, project information, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Maintain reliable records and provide consistent follow-through.
  • Travel at least 50% to support assigned regional locations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
  • At least eight years of construction experience with an owner’s representative, general contractor, architecture/engineering firm, or a comparable organization.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating design development and overseeing construction.
  • Ability to read and review drawings, scopes, schedules, and construction documentation.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction-safety practices.
  • Experience identifying site hazards, reviewing safety documentation, and coordinating corrective actions.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, and Procore.
  • Strong stakeholder-engagement and relationship-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Experience preparing clear project updates for executives.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong critical-thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proactive approach to resolving issues and completing commitments.
  • Ability to travel at least 50%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Owner’s representative experience involving commercial construction projects.
  • Experience performing comparable project-delivery responsibilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Completion of OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety training.
