We are seeking an experienced Health Information Management (HIM) Supervisor to oversee daily HIM operations and lead a team of HIM professionals in a fast-paced healthcare environment. The HIM Supervisor will be responsible for staff leadership, workload distribution, compliance, medical record integrity, and process improvement.

The ideal candidate will have progressive HIM experience, prior leadership experience, strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, and the ability to effectively collaborate with clinical, operational, compliance, and technology teams.

An active RHIT or RHIA certification is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and oversee a team of HIM professionals, including staff, supervisors, and/or team leads.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop HIM team members to support performance and professional growth.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing, workload distribution, scheduling, and resource utilization.
  • Monitor daily HIM operations to ensure timely and accurate completion of department responsibilities.
  • Investigate and resolve potential HIM-related compliance concerns and escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, confidentiality, and availability of patient health information.
  • Monitor compliance with medical record documentation standards, HIPAA requirements, and record retention policies.
  • Collaborate with clinical, operational, compliance, and technology stakeholders to address HIM-related issues and improve processes.
  • Establish departmental goals and monitor key performance metrics.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement solutions to improve efficiency, quality, and compliance.
  • Ensure HIM practices align with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Support audits, reviews, and other compliance activities as needed.
  • Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM CST

Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite

Weekends: As needed

Required Qualifications

  • Active RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) certification required.
  • Minimum 2 years of progressive Health Information Management experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of leadership or management experience overseeing multiple employees.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of:
  • HIPAA regulations
  • Joint Commission standards
  • CMS regulations
  • Healthcare documentation requirements and practices
  • Medical record retention requirements
  • Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and HIM technologies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and effectively lead a team in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
