Assistant Senior Director, Networks & Infrastructure

Engagement: 6-9 month consulting assignment
Expected commitment: Full-time
Working arrangement: On-site in the Baltimore area

We are seeking an interim Networks & Infrastructure leader to support a higher education institution with operational leadership across network engineering, systems engineering, and cybersecurity during a 6-9 month on-site consulting assignment in the Baltimore area.

Purpose
Provide interim operational leadership for a higher education institution across Network Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Cybersecurity. Partner with the Senior Director of Networks & Infrastructure tomaintain continuity of operations, coordinate priorities, and support the recruitment and onboarding of permanent departmental leaders.

Responsibilities

• Oversee project portfolios across infrastructure and cybersecurity, coordinating resources, priorities, milestones, and dependencies.
• Participate in project and operational meetings, monitor progress and risks, and provide clear executive-level status reporting.
• Support day-to-day employee supervision and coordination across technical teams.
• Work with technical staff and leadership to resolve competing priorities and maintain continuity of operations during a leadership transition.
• Assist with the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and transition of directors across Network Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Cybersecurity.

Expected outcomes

• Continuity of operational leadership and clear coordination across the three functions.
• Visibility into project priorities, resource needs, milestones, progress, and risks.
• Effective onboarding and handover of responsibilities to incoming directors

Experience required

• Leadership experience in networking, systems engineering, or cybersecurity, with meaningful exposure tothe other disciplines. Deep technical expertise in all three is not required.
• Strong portfolio management skills, including managing concurrent initiatives, prioritizing work,coordinating resources, and tracking milestones and risks.
• Experience supervising technical staff and working effectively with technical teams and senior leadership.
• Experience supporting leadership recruitment, onboarding, and organizational transitions.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to provide clear executive-level reporting
