Job Summary

Our client is looking for a high-energy Outside Sales Representative to own the Baytown territory and drive the sale of forklifts, material handling equipment, and other industrial equipment. This is a true equipment sales position the primary focus is identifying customer needs, presenting the right equipment solutions, developing quotes, negotiating pricing, and closing equipment sales.

This role is all about being out in the field visiting customers, job sites, warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and industrial locations to identify equipment needs and develop new business. The ideal candidate is a natural hunter who enjoys prospecting, building relationships, finding opportunities, and turning customer conversations into equipment sales.

The Outside Sales Representative will assess customer applications and recommend appropriate equipment, including new and pre-owned forklifts, material handling solutions, attachments, and other equipment options based on operating requirements, budget, and intended use. Familiarity with evolving technologies, such as lithium-ion-powered forklifts and warehouse automation, is beneficial.

In addition to selling equipment, the Outside Sales Representative will have the opportunity to cross-sell equipment rental solutions and service/repair programs to customers when those needs arise. The goal is to develop long-term customer relationships and maximize the overall account by providing equipment sales, rental, and aftermarket service solutions.

The ideal candidate is confident, proactive, competitive, and comfortable selling in industrial and commercial environments. Someone who enjoys being in the field, understands how businesses use forklifts and material handling equipment, and can effectively match customer needs with the right equipment solution. Strong follow-through, a stable work history, and a personality that brings energy to every interaction are important for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop new business and generate equipment sales across industrial, construction, warehouse, manufacturing, and commercial sectors
  • Prospect for new customers through cold calling, networking, job site visits, referrals, and other business development activities
  • Manage existing customer accounts, identify ongoing equipment needs, and develop opportunities for repeat and additional business
  • Sell forklifts, material handling equipment, and related industrial equipment solutions
  • Manage the full sales cycle including prospecting, needs assessment, site visits, product presentations, quoting, negotiations, and closing
  • Conduct regular customer and job site visits to identify equipment needs and upcoming purchasing opportunities
  • Perform on-site facility assessments to understand customer applications, operating environments, equipment requirements, and purchasing needs
  • Develop and maintain a strong sales pipeline within the assigned territory
  • Build long-term relationships with customers, purchasing departments, operations managers, warehouse managers, and other key decision-makers
  • Recommend the appropriate equipment based on customer application, operating environment, capacity, and budget, including applicable attachments and purchasing or leasing options
  • Cross-sell rental fleet solutions when customers have short-term, temporary, or supplemental equipment needs
  • Cross-sell service, maintenance, and repair programs to support equipment sold and expand account revenue
  • Identify opportunities for replacement equipment, fleet expansion, upgrades, and additional equipment purchases
  • Prepare accurate quotes and detailed proposals, negotiate pricing, and follow opportunities through to completion and final delivery
  • Maintain proactive communication and consistent follow-up with prospects and existing customers throughout the sales process
  • Coordinate with service, parts, and logistics teams to support equipment delivery, address customer needs, and ensure a positive customer experience
  • Maintain accurate customer, opportunity, and activity information in the CRM
  • Meet or exceed established monthly and annual sales and revenue goals

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of outside sales experience
  • Proven ability to prospect, develop a pipeline, and close sales
  • Equipment, forklift, material handling, industrial, automotive, heavy equipment, or related B2B sales experience preferred
  • Experience selling capital equipment or other high-value products is highly preferred
  • Familiarity with major forklift and material handling brands, such as Toyota, Crown, Hyster-Yale, or LiuGong, is a plus
  • Knowledge of forklift applications, equipment specifications, attachments, lithium-ion technology, or warehouse automation is beneficial
  • Strong, stable work history
  • Comfortable making cold calls, conducting in-person sales visits, and developing new accounts
  • Strong relationship-building, negotiation, presentation, and closing skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both operational personnel and senior-level decision-makers
  • High-energy, proactive, competitive, and resilient personality
  • Ability to work independently, manage a territory effectively, and collaborate with internal teams
  • Ability to conduct frequent customer and job site visits throughout the territory
  • Ability to learn technical equipment specifications and product lines quickly
  • CRM experience is a plus
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required for territory travel
  • Ability to operate forklifts for customer demonstrations when needed; applicable certification may be required
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
