BBSI is currently accepting applications for a Rework Grinder for our manufacturing client in SE Portland.
Job Summary
Your job is to find and remove defects from metal castings so the finished parts meet customer quality and size requirements. You’ll use grinders, abrasives, inspection tools, and other equipment to repair and finish castings.
What You’ll Do
Grinding & Rework
- Review inspection reports, blueprints, sketches, and work instructions to determine what needs to be repaired.
- Grind, file, sand, and smooth defects from castings using hand and power tools.
- Remove surface and hidden defects so parts can be repaired.
- Smooth and blend repaired or welded areas to meet required measurements and specifications.
- Use a hand-held sandblaster when needed.
Inspection & Quality
- Check parts using tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and ultrasonic testing equipment.
- Perform fluorescent penetrant inspections to find surface defects.
- Apply inspection chemicals, clean the part, and check for remaining defects.
- Record inspection results and complete required paperwork.
Training
- On-the-job training is provided.
- Training in rework, dimensional inspection, and penetrant inspection is a plus.
- Hazardous waste training may be required.
What You’ll Need
- Experience using grinders, grinding tools, and related equipment OR a combination of work experience and training.
- Ability to follow instructions and read basic work documents.
- Basic math skills.
- Ability to read and use measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers.
- Ability to read blueprints, work instructions, and process specifications.
- Ability to lift and move 30–50 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 80 pounds.
- Comfortable working around noise, dust, chemicals, temperature changes, and other industrial conditions for extended periods.
- Ability and willingness to follow all safety procedures, including those related to hazardous waste.
- NON NEGOTIABLE: MUST HAVE proof of US Person Status: US Birth Certificate, US Passport, or valid green card for ITAR requirements and compliance.
